Customer Calls – Why Don’t You Stock ALL Sizes of A4 Labels?

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

The phone goes and the customer wants labels for laser printing, which are blue, 21.3mm x 47.8mm, 10 to an A4 sheet, with a very strong adhesive.

Guess what?! It is not a label we have in stock…

“What do you mean, you do not have these?” exclaims the customer in disbelief…

One quiet afternoon in April we worked out that to have all of the possible combinations in stock in .1mm increments we would need over 450 million stock lines, and if we allowed 1 metre of shelving for each stock line then our shelving would go round the earth 5 times at the equator.

The reason, therefore, that we do not have everything in stock is easy… we could not get enough label shelving!!!!

Customer Calls – Gold Labels – Coffin Space

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

We got a call from an undertaker who was asking for gold laser labels, 8 to an A4 sheet.

I asked him, out of curiosity, what he was going to use them for…he replied that engraving the brass for coffins was costing a fortune…and “nobody will ever know” if he sticks a gold label on instead.

Very creepy; he bought a pack of 25 sheets, but never bought any more. I like to think that there was some ghostly revenge and he had to switch back to the engraving.

A gold labels customer called and asked us for advice because they were running out of space. I checked and they had just had a box of 500 sheets.

“How come you are running out of space?” I asked.

“Well, we have to print the label sheets one at a time and they take 6 hours to dry and we are running out of space.”

“Metallic Gold Labels are for printing on a laser printer. Are are you using an inkjet printer?”

“Yes.”

“Do you have a laser printer?”

“Yes. It is next to the inkjet printer.”
