Get All Your Summer Treats Labelled With Bottle Labels And Jar Labels From Label Planet

Wednesday, June 27th, 2018

Whether you’re selling food and drink as a business or simply making some home-made treats for friends and family, we’ve got the perfect sticky labels for your bottles and jars.

We’ve got bottle labels and jar labels in all shapes and sizes with material and adhesive options to suit all sorts of food and drink labelling applications.

BOTTLE LABELS AND JAR LABELS – WATERPROOF LABELS

You might be looking for bottle labels and jar labels that will remain firmly in place – print and all – even if they get a bit wet. In this case, we would recommend looking at our waterproof labels. These are all made with waterproof materials. Your sticky labels will stay stuck even if you submerge your bottles and jars in water. To ensure that the print remains in place, you will need to use a laser printer. Laser printers use a dry printing process to bond a dry powder (toner) onto your sticky labels. This results in waterproof print. Inkjet printers tend to use water-based inks, which run or smudge when wet.

Our waterproof labels are more expensive than paper labels. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, why not try our Splashproof Labels. These are paper labels with a gloss or semi-gloss coating, which creates a light layer of protection against moisture. You can’t submerge these sticky labels in water as they are, after all, still paper labels. If lightly splashed with water, you can wipe them clean and dry.

Our range of waterproof labels includes options for white labels or transparent labels, permanent labels or removable labels, and matt labels or gloss labels – so you can find an option that suits your application and the overall style you want to create on your bottles and jars.

BOTTLE LABELS AND JAR LABELS – REMOVABLE LABELS

If you want sticky labels that you can remove without damaging your containers, you need removable labels.

We have a range of sticky labels made with removable adhesives. Removable adhesives create strong adhesive bonds that remove cleanly from a surface in one piece. So no more sticky messes of adhesive residue. We have removable paper labels, as well as removable transparent labels, and removable white waterproof labels.

Alternatively, you may want to try our Water Wash Off Labels. These paper labels are made with a special permanent adhesive. This adhesive creates strong adhesive bonds that break down when you wash labelled items (ideally in warm soapy water). Wash off adhesives let you safely and securely label containers without worrying about the sticky labels falling off too soon OR about them damaging your containers when you try to remove each label.

Our removable labels can be handwritten or printed using a standard desktop printer. If you choose removable transparent labels or removable white waterproof labels, you need to use a laser printer.

BOTTLE LABELS AND JAR LABELS – FREEZER LABELS

You might be labelling bottles and jars that contain foodstuff that need to be stored in a freezer. Standard adhesives will often fail in freezing conditions. We supply a range of freezer labels, which are made with a special deep freeze adhesive. Designed for deep freeze conditions, this adhesive can form and sustain successful adhesive bonds in temperatures as low as -40°C.

Our freezer labels are made with standard matt white paper and may be handwritten or printed with a laser printer.

BOTTLE LABELS AND JAR LABELS – TRANSPARENT LABELS

Finally, if you’re looking for sticky labels to match transparent bottles and jars, we have a variety of transparent labels. Using transparent labels on transparent items can create a “floating print” effect or make it seem as though your printed design is actually part of your containers.

Our range of transparent labels includes options for permanent labels and removable labels, as well as the choice between matt labels and gloss labels. You must double check if you have a laser printer or an inkjet printer available. Most of our transparent labels are laser labels and can only be printed with a laser printer.

Label Planet’s Top Autumn Labels For Autumnal Applications

Wednesday, September 20th, 2017

On Friday, the Autumn Equinox takes place, which traditionally marks the change from summer to autumn, so we thought we’d take a look at a few of our product ranges that are well suited to all sorts of autumnal applications.

Coloured Labels & Kraft Labels
With the nights drawing in and the weather turning (even more) wintery, it’s the perfect time to add a bit of colour to your label applications; we’ve got seven pastel shades to add a subtle touch of colour (including our superbly autumnal crimson-red labels, orange-red labels, yellow labels, and brown Kraft labels) and five fluorescents if you’re looking for a burst of colour to brighten up the autumn months. Our pastel coloured labels can be printed with all kinds of desktop printers (inkjet or laser) or handwritten for that truly personal finishing touch, while our fluorescent labels can be printed with laser printers or handwritten.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for something to finish of your homemade arts and crafts projects, you should definitely take a look at our range of brown Kraft labels; these wonderfully decorative labels have a ribbed finish, which gives them a subtle touch of pattern and texture, while their natural brown colouring is perfect for any craft project (as well as the autumn season). These labels can also be printed with laser printers or inkjet printers and are also perfect for handwritten (or hand drawn) designs.

Freezer Labels & Wash Off Labels
In addition to taking on some crafty projects to avoid the gloom of the winter months, you may also be turning your attention to the creation of seasonally savoury and sweet dishes for the colder days ahead. With this in mind, you may find yourself in need of some self-adhesive labels that you can use to label up your ingredient containers and all of your bottles, jars, boxes, and bowls that you need to use to hold all of your delicious delights!

We have two products that are particularly useful for food and drink applications – namely our Freezer Labels (ideal for all those foods that you need to store away for a later date) and our Wash Off Labels (perfect for labelling all of the containers you need for ingredients and the finished product).

Our freezer labels are made with a special adhesive developed specifically for deep freeze conditions; standard adhesives often fail to sustain – or even create – an adhesive bond at cold temperatures, while deep freeze adhesives can be used to label all kinds of items that are already frozen or that will be frozen at a later date. Our freezer labels will work at temperatures of between -40°C to +60°C and are supplied as matt white paper labels (with that all-important deep freeze adhesive) that can be handwritten or printed with a laser printer.

Please note that we do NOT recommend printing our freezer labels with an inkjet printer as inkjet inks are generally water-based, which means your print will run or smudge if it comes into contact with condensation or other sources of water.

Our wash off labels, meanwhile, are also made with a specially developed adhesive designed to create a strong permanent adhesive bond that will break down when exposed to water; this means that you can safely and securely label containers before washing them (to cleanly remove the label without damaging your containers) so that you can reuse and relabel your containers again and again (and again!). Our wash off labels can be handwritten or printed with any desktop printer (laser or inkjet) and are matt white paper labels with that special wash off adhesive.

Find these labels here: Freezer Labels // Wash Off Labels

Splashproof Labels & Waterproof Labels
Finally, if you’re looking for some heavy duty labels that can withstand a bit of exposure to the great British weather during the autumn months, you might want to try our Waterproof Labels. All of these labels are made with synthetic materials (polyester, polyethylene, or polyolefin) and are therefore completely waterproof; this makes these labels ideal for any indoor or outdoor application where they might be exposed to (or indeed immersed in) water – a useful property if you’re looking for labels that can be used during the autumn months. Three of our waterproof labels (MWP, MWPE, and MWPO) are made with a special marine adhesive that meets the BS5609 part 2 standard for marine immersion, which makes these labels perfect for outside applications (and all of the environmental challenges that go along with being outside during a British autumn).

All of our waterproof labels MUST be printed using a LASER printer to produce fully waterproof labels (i.e. so that the labels AND the print you add onto them are both waterproof); laser printers use a dry printing process to bond a dry powder (toner) to the medium being printed, which produces waterproof print – inkjet printers, however, tend to use inks that are water-based, which means your print will run or smudge if it gets wet (or even if it is simply handled a lot).

You can print both our MWPE and MWPO labels with a laser printer or an inkjet printer but only a laser printer will produce waterproof print. To create waterproof print with an inkjet printer you would either need to find a way to add a protective layer over the top of your print (for example, by sticking a transparent label over the top) or you would need to source specialist inks and a printer that can produce waterproof inkjet print.

As a cheaper alternative, we offer “splashproof” labels; these labels are made with paper – meaning that they are NOT waterproof – but have a gloss or semi-gloss coating that offers limited protection against water, which allows them to be wiped clean and dry if they are accidentally splashed with a bit of water. So, if you don’t need a fully waterproof solution, our GW and SG labels offer budget friendly alternatives that will do the job you need them to just as well as our more durable synthetic labels.

Like our waterproof labels, you will need to print these labels using a laser printer (and not an inkjet printer).

FAQ – What’s The Difference Between A “Standard” Adhesive & A “Special” Adhesive?

Wednesday, September 13th, 2017

All of our products are self-adhesive labels that are made with “pressure sensitive adhesives”; this simply means that the adhesives on our labels are tacky (sticky) under normal conditions and therefore only require the pressure of a finger or hand to create a successful adhesive bond.

Pressure sensitive adhesives can be broadly divided into “permanent adhesives” (designed to hold a label firmly in place and making it as difficult as possible to remove the label) and “removable adhesives” (designed to hold a label in place while it is needed before removing cleanly and easily from a surface without doing any damage or leaving behind any adhesive residue in the process). You may have noticed that we have a variety of labels that we describe as having either a “standard permanent adhesive” or a “standard removable adhesive” – you may also have noticed that we have other products that we describe as having “special” adhesives and you may have wondered what the difference is between these categories.

Essentially, a “standard” adhesive is a general purpose adhesive that has been designed to create a good adhesive bond between two surfaces under “normal” conditions. “Special” adhesives, meanwhile, are designed to create an adhesive bond that is suitable for a particular label application (and the specific set of environmental conditions or requirements that the application entails) – usually because a standard adhesive wouldn’t be able to produce and/or sustain a successful adhesive bond under those conditions.

At Label Planet, we have a variety of “special” adhesives, each of which has been manufactured to produce specific characteristics that make that adhesive well-suited to a particular label application or set of environmental conditions.

SUPER TACK ADHESIVE
This adhesive has been specially developed to create an extremely strong adhesive bond between a wide range of materials; the adhesive has extremely strong initial and ultimate tack, which means that it instantly creates an extremely strong adhesive bond at the moment a label is applied, which will then go on to strengthen and set into a stronger bond. Super tack adhesives are designed for label applications where a standard permanent adhesive simply cannot create and/or sustain a bond between two materials (usually because the materials are unusual in texture and/or the surface is curved or shaped in some manner) OR where there is an important need to make sure that the label is extremely difficult to remove (for example, because the label carries vital identifying information, health and safety warnings, and/or instructions for use).

Our Super Tack Labels (product code: ST) are paper labels with a super tack adhesive and can be printed using an inkjet printer or a laser printer OR they can be handwritten. These labels are made with our strongest permanent adhesive to date and are suitable for label applications that involve unusual materials and/or surfaces, that involve cold temperatures, or that require labels that will remain firmly in place over a long period of time and prove to be extremely difficult to remove.

HIGH TACK ADHESIVE
Similar to a super tack adhesive, a high tack adhesive offers a stronger adhesive bond than that which is created by standard permanent adhesives (although it is not as strong as a super tack adhesive). High tack adhesives have strong initial and ultimate tack and are capable of creating strong adhesive bonds between a wide range of materials and surface types.

Our High Tack Labels (product code: HT) are paper labels with a high tack adhesive and can be printed using an inkjet printer or a laser printer OR they can be handwritten. These labels are well-suited to label applications where a standard adhesive isn’t capable of creating and sustaining an adhesive bond OR where there is a need to make absolutely sure that the labels will remain firmly in place for an extended period of time.

MARINE ADHESIVE
The term “marine adhesive” is applied to adhesives that have been designed to create and sustain an adhesive bond in marine environments. Our marine adhesive conforms to the BS5609 part 2 standard for marine immersions to qualify for this certification, the adhesive undergoes a number of rigorous tests to ensure that it will work in tough marine conditions, including submersion in salt water for three months. This adhesive was developed specifically for labelling chemical drums that are shipped overseas (where the drums MUST remain clearly labelled even if they fall overboard).

We supply THREE product ranges with a marine adhesive; our Matt White Polyester Labels (product code: MWP) are made with matt white polyester and a marine adhesive, our Polyethylene Labels (product code: MWPE) are made with matt white polyethylene and a marine adhesive, and our Polyolefin Labels (product code: MWPO) are made with matt white polyolefin and a marine adhesive. All of these labels can be printed with a laser printer OR can be handwritten; our MWPE and MWPO labels can also be printed with an inkjet printer although this will not create waterproof print as inkjet inks tend to be water-based and so will run or smudge if the print gets wet. These waterproof labels are ideal for a wide range of applications that need tough and durable labels – especially any indoor or outdoor applications that may involve exposure to or immersion in water.

VOID ADHESIVE
This adhesive is used to make security labels in the form of tamper evident labels that leave behind the word “VOID” when a label is removed from an item. There are a variety of void adhesives, which provide visual evidence of tampering in this way – some will leave behind the word “VOID” (or another message) on the labelled item only, on the label itself only, or the adhesive layer will split to leave the message on both the labelled item and the label itself (this is how our VOID labels works).

Our VOID Labels (product code: SVP) are silver polyester labels with a VOID adhesive and can be printed using a laser printer (or handwritten). These labels are ideal for use as security labels on high value items, security seals on packaging or document folders, or as warranty labels on high or added value goods. They improve the security of these items by acting as a visual deterrent against tampering and by providing visual evidence that an item has, in fact, been tampered with or not.

DEEP FREEZE ADHESIVE
As the name suggests, this adhesive was designed to produce a permanent adhesive bond even when the labelled item is exposed to deep freeze conditions. Standard adhesives will usually struggle to produce and/or sustain an adhesive bond in extremely low temperatures, which makes a deep freeze adhesive an ideal alternative for any label application that involves exposure to or storage in colder temperatures.

Our Freezer Labels (product code: DF) are paper labels with a deep freeze adhesive and can be printed using a laser printer OR they can be handwritten (we do not recommend printing these labels with an inkjet printer as inkjet inks tend to be water-based, which means that your print will run or smudge when it comes into contact with condensation). These labels are ideal for any label application that involves deep freeze conditions, including food and drink labels or identification labels on research and/or medical samples. The labels can be applied onto items that are already frozen or that will be frozen at a later date and will maintain a good adhesive bond at temperatures between -40°C to +60°C.

WATER WASH OFF ADHESIVE
This adhesive provides a brilliant solution to the problem of labelling items safely and securely (as with a permanent adhesive) before removing the labels without damaging the items (as with a removable adhesive) so that they can be reused (and relabelled). Water wash off adhesives create a strong adhesive bond that breaks down when exposed to water; this means that a label will remain firmly in place while needed BUT will remove cleanly and easily when the labelled item is washed.

Our Water Wash Off Labels (product code: WW) are paper labels with a water wash off adhesive and can be printed using an inkjet printer or a laser printer OR they can be handwritten. These labels are ideal for use on reusable containers and particularly those used in the food and drink industry (either to hold ingredients or as product containers, such as jars and bottles) – the contents of a container can be safely and clearly identified before the label is washed away when the container is cleaned before being reused.

SUPER REMOVABLE ADHESIVE
Also known as a “glass removable” adhesive, this removable adhesive was developed specifically for use on delicate surfaces – such as glass and paper – which are likely to be damaged when a label is removed. The adhesive makes use of modern manufacturing methods and materials to create a light adhesive bond that will gently hold a label in place while it is needed before allowing that label to be removed without doing any damage in the process.

Our Super Removable Labels (product code: GREM) are paper labels with a super removable adhesive and can be printed using an inkjet printer or a laser printer OR they can be handwritten. These labels are ideal for temporarily labelling delicate items (especially those made of glass or paper) and are brilliant product labels that can be used to display pricing information on (gift) items such as vases and books.

You can view a full list of all of the different adhesives that are used to make our self-adhesive labels on our All Adhesives page; this page gives a brief description of each adhesive, along with information about the product range that it is used to make, and a link to the range page for that particular product, so you can find out more about or place an order for those particular labels.

Picking The Perfect Labels For Your Summer Foodie Projects

Wednesday, July 19th, 2017

Summer is the perfect time for making all sorts of sweet and savoury goodies to enjoy while you (try to) enjoy a bit of summer sun. Whether you’re a home-baker or home-brewer making a few seasonal delights for friends and family or you’re a restaurant or café looking to create a selection of succulent snacks to satisfy summer shoppers, you’ll probably need a few extra labels to get all of your ingredients and products labelled up before they’re handed out.

This blog takes a closer look at the Label Planet labels that are just perfect for labelling food and drink products.

Freezer Labels
Best For: Frozen Foods
If you’re making ice creams or desserts that need to be stored in freezer conditions then our freezer labels are the ideal choice. These paper labels are made with a special freezer adhesive that is suitable for use in temperatures ranging between -40°C to +60°C and was specifically developed for deep freeze label applications (in which other standard adhesives tend to fail).

These white labels can be handwritten or printed using a laser printer; we don’t recommend using an inkjet printer, as the water-based inks will be likely to run and smudge when they are exposed to condensation.

We have eight label sizes available to order for same day despatch from stock, with a further thirty-six label sizes available as made to order bulk boxes.

Water Wash Off Labels
Best For: Labelling Ingredients / Reusable Containers
Water wash off labels are a brilliant solution to the problem of needing to securely label a container (so that the contents can be identified at all times) before removing the label without damaging the container (so that the container can be cleaned and reused).

Our wash off labels are paper labels with a special “wash off” adhesive; this is permanent adhesive creates a strong bond with a surface BUT also breaks down when it is exposed to water (so it doesn’t leave behind any adhesive residue or damage the surface). This means that you can safely and securely label food and drink containers so that their contents are clearly identified and then wash the labels off before reusing and relabelling the containers as required.

Again, we have eight label sizes available for same day despatch from stock, with thirty-six additional made to order label sizes.

Waterproof Labels
Best For: Labelling Drink Bottles
If you need labels for drink bottles that are likely to be exposed to condensation or ice, you may want to consider using waterproof labels; these labels will not be damaged by exposure to water or other liquids, which will allow your labels to remain firmly in place and completely legible for the entire length of the application.

These labels need to be printed with a laser printer in order to produce waterproof print and we have a variety of materials options to help you find the perfect label for your products. You can choose between white labels or transparent labels and we also offer options for a gloss finish (a shiny finish) or a matt finish (a dull, non-shiny finish).

We supply seventeen label sizes of waterproof labels as stocked items (packs of 25 sheets available for same day despatch), with a further twenty-seven label sizes available as made to order items (boxes of 500 sheets).

You can view ALL of our label materials on our All Materials page, download a label template from our Label Templates home page, and you can also Request A Sample of any of our label materials to make sure that you pick the perfect stickers for your summery snacks.

Make Sure Your Stickers Stick By Choosing A Permanent Adhesive

Wednesday, May 31st, 2017

At Label Planet, we supply a wide range of labels, which can broadly be divided into two categories: Permanent Labels and Removable Labels – which, you will undoubtedly not be surprised to learn, are made with permanent adhesives and removable adhesives respectively. This post takes a closer look at the labels that fall into the first category (Permanent Labels) and the adhesives used to make them stick.

PERMANENT ADHESIVES
Generally speaking, a permanent adhesive is any adhesive that is designed to create a strong adhesive bond that is difficult to break. This does NOT mean that permanent adhesives are 100% permanent; any label held in place with a permanent adhesive can be removed if an individual is determined enough to do so – permanent adhesives are simply designed to make the removal of a label as difficult as possible (which means that they will usually leave behind adhesive residue and may damage the surface that they were applied to when they are removed).

Permanent adhesives typically offer good initial tack (this is the strength of the adhesive bond that is created at the moment an adhesive is applied to a surface) and good ultimate tack (this is the strength of the adhesive bond that is formed once the adhesive has completely strengthened and set).

SELF-ADHESIVE PERMANENT ADHESIVES
At Label Planet, all of our labels are “self-adhesive”/“pressure sensitive” labels (made with self-adhesive or pressure sensitive adhesives); this simply means that these labels require only the pressure of a finger or hand to adhere to a surface. Other adhesives may require the presence of another substance or specific conditions to form an adhesive bond (e.g. water sensitive adhesives require the presence of water to initiate a chemical reaction that leads to the formation of an adhesive bond, while holt melt adhesives must be melted and allowed to cool back into a solid to create an adhesive bond). Pressure sensitive adhesives, however, are tacky (sticky) in their dry form at room temperature and are applied using only the pressure of a finger or hand.

DIFFERENT STRENGTHS OF SELF-ADHESIVE PERMANENT ADHESIVES
Permanent adhesives are available in a range of adhesive strengths; standard permanent adhesives, for example, will be able to form a good adhesive bond between a general range of surface types and materials, while stronger permanent adhesives (sometimes called High Tack Adhesives) will be able to form a strong adhesive bond between a wide range of surface types and materials – including curved surfaces and unusual materials such as wood, plastics, and metals.

Permanent adhesives may also be designed to provide better adhesive strength under more challenging or unusual environmental conditions, such as Marine Adhesives (designed to create a permanent adhesive bond that can survive exposure to or immersion in water) and Freezer Adhesives (designed to create a permanent adhesive bond that can survive in freezing conditions).

LABEL PLANET’S DIFFERENT STRENGTHS OF SELF-ADHESIVE PERMANENT ADHESIVES
At Label Planet, we try to offer our customers a range of permanent adhesive options so that they can find a label that is suitable for the particular requirements of their individual label application. Our range of permanent adhesives includes:

Get Out And About With Labels For The Great Outdoors

Tuesday, June 14th, 2016

Summer is the time to get outside and thousands of individuals and organisations across the country will be arranging trips and events in the great outdoors, which means they’ll need labels that will survive in these conditions (whatever the weather decides to do)!

At Label Planet, we have a whole range of “weatherproof” labels that are designed to offer that extra bit of durability against the challenges of the natural world, which makes them the perfect option if you need your labels to be useful in the great outdoors (or even the great indoors if they are to be stored or used near water).

Our weatherproof labels are made using polyester or polyethylene, which are both highly durable, long lasting materials that offer the particularly useful property of being waterproof! Our waterproof range includes self adhesive labels with a variety of finishes and adhesives to help you find the one that’s perfect for your application:

Material Colour
We have waterproof labels in three different colours (white, off-white, and silver) along with three transparent products. Our white and off-white colours are ideal if you need a standard label with a solid background colour for your design to sit on, while the metallic finish of our silver polyester creates a decorative and professional finish that will really stand out from the surface background. If you need a label that is suitable for a transparent surface, that won’t cover up a decorative surface, or that will help avoid colour-matching issues, then our transparent labels are the perfect choice.

Material Finish
We also offer a choice of matt and gloss finishes, so you can choose the one that best suits the appearance that you want to create. Matt finishes have a duller, non-shiny finish, while gloss finishes have a bright, shiny finish. You may wish to choose a waterproof label that has a finish to match the surface you are labelling or you may wish to use a contrasting finish to help your label stand out. Both our transparent and white waterproof labels are available with either a matt or a gloss finish, while our silver waterproof labels have a matt metallic finish.

Adhesive Strength
Our waterproof range includes THREE different adhesives, so you can choose the strength that best suits your needs. If you need your outdoor labels for temporary purposes (e.g. temporary signs that can be removed when an event finishes) and you don’t want them to do any damage when you remove them, you can opt for our removable transparent waterproof labels (GTR) or our removable white waterproof labels (MWR), which are both designed to provide good adhesion while the label is needed before removing cleanly and easily from the surface.

If you’re looking for a more permanent label that can survive outside, you can opt for one of our standard permanent waterproof adhesives, which are found on our gloss and matt transparent labels (GTP and MTP), our gloss white polyester labels (GWP), and our silver metallic polyester labels (SMP). Alternatively, if you’re looking for a really tough label that can truly take on the terrors of the great outdoors, then we recommend choosing either our matt white polyester labels (MWP) or our polyethylene labels (MWPE), which are both made using a marine standard waterproof adhesive; to achieve this standard, the adhesive has been immersed in sea water for 3 months, which makes it a perfect choice for use on outdoor labels.

It should be noted that all of these waterproof labels are listed as “Laser Labels” – meaning they are suitable for use with laser printers (but NOT with inkjet printers). Laser printers use a dry printing process to bond toner (a dry powder) onto the medium being printed using heat and pressure, which produces print that is waterproof. Inkjet printers use inks that are usually water-based, which means that they will run and smudge if they get wet or are handled a lot. We recommend using a laser printer to produce waterproof labels BUT if you only have access to an inkjet printer there are a couple of alternative options you could try:

  1. Source non-water-based inks that can produce waterproof print.
  2. Print labels using your inkjet printer and then source some transparent labels (or a sealant) that you can apply over your print to provide a protective waterproof coating.

Please note, you will need to make sure that you purchase labels that are compatible with an inkjet printer; inkjet inks will not dry properly on the materials used to make laser labels.

Plus, if you’re looking to capitalise on the (hopefully) warmer weather with some delicious treats, we’ve got a wonderful range of Freezer Labels, which are perfect for getting all your frozen foods (and drinks) labelled up in time for some fun in the sun.

Our freezer labels are made of a matt white paper with a special Deep Freeze adhesive, which is designed specifically for use in freezer conditions (down to -40°C). These labels can be applied to items that are already frozen or that will be frozen at a later date and are ideal for creating product labels on food and drink products. Cool Down This Summer With Freezer Labels For All Your Delicious Treats & Sumptuous Snacks!

Tuesday, June 7th, 2016

Regardless of what the weather is doing, the summer months are the perfect excuse to indulge in delightful deserts and refreshing beverages. With all kinds of fantastic treats appearing just in time for the summer holidays, it’s the perfect time to get your hands on our fantastic freezer labels so all of your summer delights are labelled up and ready to go.

Our freezer labels are made with matt white paper and a special permanent adhesive, designed specifically for use in “deep freeze” conditions. These labels can be applied onto items that will be chilled or frozen at a later date OR onto items that are already chilled or frozen and (once applied) can survive exposure to temperatures ranging from -40°C to +60°C, which makes them perfect for use as product labels on food and drink goods that need to be kept cool or frozen. The adhesive also conforms to the German BgVV for indirect food contact and short term contact with dry and moist foods, which makes these labels an ideal way to safely and securely label frozen food and drink products.

The range includes 8 stocked sizes, which are available to order in packs of 25 sheets for same day despatch, and a further 38 sizes available to order (minimum order quantity of 500 sheets and up to 5 working days for despatch). Our freezer labels make it extremely quick and simple to create your own labels for foodstuffs, whether you’re an individual making homemade treats for friends and family or a company looking for a simple and cost effective way to get your goods labelled.

These freezer labels can be printed with a laser printer or handwritten – as long as you take care to choose a waterproof pen to prevent your writing running or smudging if it is exposed to condensation.

We do not advise that you print these labels with an inkjet printer, as the inks used for inkjet printing are usually water-based, which will cause them to run or smudge if they get wet through contact with condensation or if they are handled frequently.

We are often asked if we supply waterproof freezer labels to help avoid the issue of paper wrinkling when condensation forms; we have researched the possibility of offering such a product BUT because the majority of our customers use these labels on food products and need to keep their costs down as much as possible, the cost of having freezer labels made using waterproof materials would make them too expensive to be a genuine option for these customers.

To get your summer snacks safely and securely labelled in time for some grand adventures in the summer sun (or showers), visit our Freezer Labels range page to select the size and quantity you need.

Top Tips – How To Pick The Perfect Product Label

Thursday, March 10th, 2016

Product labels often have a number of important roles to play; they may carry important information about your product, carry barcodes or QR codes that contain vital tracking information, or quite simply might provide a significant opportunity to help make your products, brand, and company stand out from the crowd.

Getting the right product label is an important choice – especially if you’ve spent months or even years developing your product and you want your labels to work just as hard as you have to help get your product sold.

With this in mind, we’ve put together a hit list of decisions that you need to make when choosing your product labels.

What Are You Sticking Them Onto & How Long Do They Need To Last?
Labels For Product Packaging:
Packaging labels need to remain firmly in place so you should make sure you choose a PERMANENT adhesive. If your packaging is made using unusual materials (especially plastic bags or boxes) you may find that standard permanent adhesives struggle to bond properly, which means you’ll need a stronger adhesive such as a HIGH TACK or MARINE adhesive. You may also be looking for a label that improves the security of your goods (especially for high value goods); we supply two “TAMPER EVIDENT” products, which can be used to provide evidence of tampering, to securely seal packaging, or to act as a warranty label or seal.

If it is of the utmost importance that your labels remain on the packaging, even if the items are to be moved around a lot, then you should consider choosing a POLYESTER or POLYETHYLENE label; these materials are much more durable than paper and offer protection against a variety of environmental factors including exposure to water and sunlight, which makes them perfect for use as long life tracking or asset labels.

Labels For Products (That Must Be Permanent):
Some product labels are used to add vital product information to items, which means the information must remain with your product for the lifetime of each item – so you must use a PERMANENT adhesive. If your products are made with unusual materials or have a curved or uneven surface you should consider choosing a stronger, more specialised adhesive (e.g. a HIGH TACK or MARINE adhesive) to ensure that your labels stay firmly in place. You may also want to apply one of our “TAMPER EVIDENT” label products to act as a warranty label or to indicate if an item has been tampered with. To create long life tracking or asset labels, you should choose one of our more durable materials; we have a range of POLYESTER and POLYETHYLENE labels, which are long lasting, waterproof labels that will survive in a variety of environments and conditions.

Labels For Products (That Must Be Removable):
It may be that the content of your labels is only required temporarily (e.g. pricing information) and so your labels should remove cleanly and easily from your products without doing any damage. In this case, you should choose labels made with a REMOVABLE ADHESIVE. If your items are particularly delicate (especially items made of paper or glass), then you may even want to consider a SUPER REMOVABLE ADHESIVE to ensure that your items remain undamaged when a label is eventually removed.

What Environments Do They Need To Work In?
Depending on the type of products you are labelling, you may need to take into account the environments that your products will be stored or used in when picking a product label. Two of the most common examples are food and drink products and cosmetic products; the former are likely to be exposed to a variety of conditions in kitchens (including exposure to liquids and variations in temperature), while the latter are likely to be used in bathrooms where they may be exposed to water or other liquids.

If you know that your labels need to survive in conditions where they may get wet then you should make sure you select a WATERPROOF label (or, as a cheaper alternative, a SPLASHPROOF label). Likewise, if you’re selling food and drink products that need to be stored in freezer conditions then you’ll need to make sure you choose DEEP FREEZE labels, which are made using a special adhesive that is designed specifically to function efficiently in freezer conditions.

How Much Content Do You Want To Add?
When designing labels for products, you’ll need to make sure that all of your information is clear and legible (especially for products that are required to show ingredients, allergen warnings, instructions for use, best before/use by dates, or health and safety warnings) AND that your branding looks attractive and professional.

A good tip is to make a note of everything you want to include on your labels (although actually typing it out is even better); if you find that you’ve got an awful lot of stuff to include but not a lot of space to add a label big enough to display it all neatly and legibly, you might want to consider breaking it up and using two or more smaller labels to create a cleaner appearance. This means you won’t end up compromising by either reducing your font to teeny tiny text or plastering a massive label all over your products and/or packaging.

What Do You Want Your Product To Look Like?
If you’re trying to create a particular appearance or build up brand recognition, you’ll want to make sure that your labels fit in with the overall ethos that you’re aiming to promote. Simply plastering a standard paper label onto your products could undermine any special design features that you’ve worked hard to add to your products and packaging, so it’s always worth looking at different material options to find the one that best matches your brand image:

Gloss Labels: these labels have a shiny smooth coating that creates a finish that is both decorative and professional in appearance. Our gloss polyester labels are particularly popular for use on cosmetics products, while our photo quality gloss paper labels are perfect for printing detailed designed work at a high resolution, even if you’ve got photographic images as part of your design.

Premium Quality Paper: made of a premium quality paper that has been treated with a special coating to give it a supremely smooth finish, these labels can help to produce excellent high resolution print that is sharp and precise. Our MPQ material is particularly popular for creating a professional finish, especially for branding and marketing labels that should be smart and crisp.

Coloured Paper: coloured labels are a brilliant starting point if you want your labels to be bold and bright, whether you’re trying to create a fun, fabulous brand identity or you simply want to draw attention to your products. We’ve got a range of subtle pastel shades for those who prefer a gentle bloom of colour or a choice of five fluorescent colours to really give your product a kick start.

Kraft Paper: made with an unbleached, uncoated Kraft paper, these labels have a ribbed brown colouring, which creates a natural appearance with a subtle touch of pattern and texture. Our Kraft Labels are especially popular for use as product labels where the products are homemade/handcrafted or gift items, or where a company wants to promote their products as being natural, bespoke, or handmade.

Metallic Paper: available in gold or silver, our metallic paper labels have a very attractive semi-gloss textured finish, which makes them a popular choice for product labels that are promoted as luxury or gift items, or to create promotional or marketing labels.

Transparent Polyester: transparent labels are a perfect tool for creating decorative and professional product labels because they provide design opportunities that other labels simply cannot provide. For example, they are brilliant product labels for use on products or packaging that are made with transparent materials (especially glass or plastic bottles), a perfect way to avoid problems with exact colour matching, and a simple solution to the issue of adding additional information to existing print work (where non-transparent labels would end up covering up some of your existing print).

Silver Metallic Polyester: with a matt metallic finish, these polyester labels are often used as professional long life tracking or asset labels – particularly on high value goods and electrical or electronic appliances.

Adopt An Appropriate Adhesive So All Your Labels Adhere!

Tuesday, January 26th, 2016

From a purely practical point of view, the most important part of a label is the adhesive; if you choose the wrong sort of adhesive for your particular application then you may well find that your labels simply won’t do the job that you need them to do.

Many people don’t realise that there are different types and strengths of adhesive – although for most applications a simple standard permanent adhesive will do the job. The problem is that there are a handful of label applications that require the use of a different kind of adhesive because a standard permanent adhesive simply doesn’t meet the requirements of that application.

These alternative adhesives tend to be designed specifically for a particular kind of label application and will therefore have properties and characteristics that allow them to function efficiently in that application. The most common reasons that you might need to use something other than a standard permanent adhesive are:

  • You Need Temporary Labels
If you need labels that will stay in place for a fixed (short) time only, you may find that standard permanent adhesives are not a suitable choice. Instead you should look at removable adhesives, which are designed to provide a good adhesive bond while a label is needed before peeling away cleanly from a surface without doing any damage in the process.
  • You Need Labels That Will Survive In More Challenging Environments
While standard permanent adhesives will function efficiently on a range of surfaces in “normal” or “standard” conditions, you might need labels that can survive in more challenging environments; for example, your application might involve different or fluctuating conditions, such as high or low temperatures or even exposure to water. These conditions will most likely cause a standard adhesive to fail, which means you would need to choose a special adhesive designed to cope with more extreme conditions.
  • You Need Labels That Can Adhere To Unusual Or Curved Surfaces
Certain materials and surfaces may prove too difficult for standard permanent adhesives to bond with properly, which means that if you want to make sure your labels stay in place you’ll have to choose a stronger permanent adhesive.

So how do I go about choosing the right sort of adhesive?
Adhesives are primarily classified as “Permanent” or “Removable”, so the first choice you need to make is whether you need your labels to be “Permanent” or “Temporary”; choose a permanent adhesive for permanent labels (to make sure they stay firmly in place) and a removable adhesive for temporary labels (to make sure they can be removed without damage when you no longer need them).

Once you’ve narrowed your search to one of these two kinds of adhesive, you need to take into account any environmental factors that might require the use of a more specialised adhesive; try to think of anything in your label application that might cause a problem for a standard adhesive – if you can’t think of anything then you should be okay with a standard adhesive BUT if there are specific requirements that you need your labels to cope with then you should take a look at more specialised adhesives with specific properties that make them better suited to your application.

For example: Choosing The Right Permanent Adhesive
We have twenty two products with permanent adhesives, which can be grouped as follows:
Standard Permanent Labels (STA/MPQ/GWPQ/BRK/C/FC/GW/LG/LS/SG)
Simply choose the label product with the colour and/or finish that you like best.
Durable and/or Waterproof Permanent Labels (MWP/MWPE/GWP/SMP/GCP/GTP/MTP)
Choose one of these if you need your labels to be durable and/or waterproof, especially if you’re looking to create long life tracking labels.
Strong Permanent Labels (For Unusual Surfaces) (Mega Tack/HT/MWP/MWPE)
Choose one of these if you need a label that will stay firmly stuck or you need to label an unusual surface that standard adhesives struggle to bond with.
Freezer Labels (DF)
Choose these labels if you need to label items that are to be stored or used in freezer conditions (for example, food and drink products or medical and research samples).
Outdoor Labels (MWP/MWPE)
Choose one of these if you need a label that can survive in outdoor conditions, particularly if those conditions include exposure to or submersion in water.
Security Labels (SVP and TEV)
Choose one of these if you’re looking for a label product that will improve the security of your items by providing evidence if an attempt is made to tamper with the labels (and therefore your items).

For example: Choosing The Right Removable Adhesive
We have five products with removable adhesives, which can be grouped as follows:
Standard Removable Labels (REM and REMC)
Choose one of these if you need a basic temporary label (in white or colour).
Durable and/or Waterproof Removable Labels (GTR and MWR)
Choose one of these if you need temporary labels that are more durable and waterproof.
Removable Labels For Delicate Surfaces or Long Term Use (GREM)
Choose these labels if you need to label delicate items (e.g. those made of paper or glass) and/or it is absolutely vital that no damage is done when your labels are removed.

To help you work out which adhesive is the best option for you, we’ve created a “Complete List of all our Label Adhesives” page, which lists all of our products according to the type of adhesive they are made with, along with a description of the characteristics of each adhesive. Remember, you can also request a sample of any label products that you are interested in so you can test them to make sure they will work for you before you go ahead and buy. We recommend that you replicate the conditions of your application as closely as possible with your samples so you know for certain that they are the right labels for the job.
