Label Planet’s Checklist For Choosing Self Adhesive Labels

Wednesday, August 29th, 2018

Our checklist for choosing self adhesive labels includes the key factors you need to keep in mind when selecting the most suitable stickers.

You don’t need to use all of these factors to choose the right self adhesive labels for your application. Nor do you have to follow this exact order when picking your perfect stickers. Instead, take a look through the list and see which factors apply to your situation. You can then place them in an order based on how important they are to your label application.

Do You Need To Print Or Handwrite Your Self Adhesive Labels (Or Will They Be Left Blank)?

If you intend to leave your sticky labels blank (for example, to use them as seals on documents or packaging), you can select ANY of the self adhesive labels supplied by Label Planet. The same applies if you’d prefer to handwrite your sticky labels. Paper labels are the easiest to handwrite. Gloss labels and synthetic (plastic) labels may require the use of more specialised pens (compared to a simple biro).

Most of our customers want to print their own sticky labels. Our self adhesive labels are designed for desktop printers. Some can only be printed with a laser printer or only with an inkjet printer. You can find printer compatibility for all of our products on our website and packaging.

Do You Need A Particular Label Size Or Shape For Your Self Adhesive Labels?

You may need self adhesive labels to fit onto items or into a space that requires the use of a particular label size and/or shape. At Label Planet, we supply rectangular labels (with round or square cut corners), round labels / circular labels, oval labels, square labels, media labels, and CD labels / DVD labels. We also supply a range of more than 100 label sizes.

Self adhesive labels supplied on A4 sheets tend to be available in “standard” label sizes. These sizes are created by splitting an A4 sheet into (usually) equally sized label shapes with as little waste around and between the blank labels. You can view all of our label sizes on our Search By Width and Search By Height pages or by using our Label Finder.

Do You Need Your Self Adhesive Labels To Stay Stuck Permanently Or Temporarily?

We supply a variety of adhesives, which means there are two questions that you need to answer.

First, you need to decide if you want permanent labels or removable labels.

Removable labels are designed to remove cleanly without leaving behind adhesive residue. If you need removable labels, your next question is: are you labelling delicate items, reusable containers, or something else.

  • Label delicate items (e.g. those made of paper or glass) using our super removable adhesive.
  • For reusable containers (e.g. to label foodstuffs), we recommend our water wash off adhesive. This permanent adhesive breaks down in water, so you can remove your sticky labels by washing your items.
  • For any other items, use any of our sticky labels with a removable adhesive.

Permanent labels are designed to stay in place permanently and to be difficult to remove. We offer options for:

  • Super/high tack adhesives; designed for applications where your sticky labels have to stay in place OR for more unsual surfaces/materials (e.g. fabrics, plastics, building materials etc).
  • Freezer adhesive; designed for labelling items that are to be stored and/or used in deep freeze conditions, such as food stuffs or medical/research samples and equipment.
  • Marine adhesive; designed for outdoor applications. Also suitable for general applications that require tough, durable, and long-lasting tracking labels.
  • Water wash off adhesive; creates a permanent adhesive bond that breaks down when exposed to water.
  • Opaque adhesive; designed for applications where you need to cover up existing print (usually because it is wrong or out of date).
  • Security adhesives; designed to provide visual evidence of tampering.
  • Standard permanent adhesives; create good adhesive bonds with a range of surfaces.

Do You Need Self Adhesive Labels That Are Waterproof / Transparent?

If you need to use waterproof labels or transparent labels, you will need to choose from our range of synthetic materials. You can then choose between laser labels or inkjet labels, permanent labels or removable labels, and gloss labels or matt labels.

NB: if you want to print waterproof labels, you will generally need to use a laser printer. Standard inkjet inks are water-based and so run or smudge when wet. Laser printers use heat and pressure to bond a dry powder (toner) into place creating waterproof print. The one exception is our MWPP material, which uses a special top coating to seal inkjet print in place to create waterproof inkjet labels.

We also have two laser paper labels, which we call “splashproof”. Paper labels will be damaged by water because they are made using paper. Our GW and SG paper labels have top coatings that provide limited protection against water, which means they can be wiped clean and dry if lightly splashed with water.

Do You Want To Use Coloured Labels Or A Particular Finish On Your Self Adhesive Labels?

Our range of coloured labels includes pastel coloured labels, fluorescent labels, gold labels and silver labels, and brown ribbed Kraft paper labels.

You can also choose between gloss labels or matt labels. Gloss labels have a bright and shiny finish that is perfect for adding a subtle decorative touch. Our gloss range includes various “full” gloss labels as well as our semi-gloss labels.

Do You Have A Particular Budget For Your Self Adhesive Labels?

For some people, a defining factor in their final decision is their budget. Standard paper labels will always be the most budget friendly option. Any special characteristics (e.g. colour, transparency/opacity, gloss coatings, special adhesives etc) will push the prices up.

At Label Planet, we use a price break system, which creates a better price per unit for larger quantities.

You also need to bear in mind that we cannot stock all of the material and adhesive combinations that we supply. Stocked items come in 25 sheet packs or 500 sheet boxes. Non-stocked items are made to order and come in 500 sheet boxes. Made to order options, therefore, tend to be more expensive. Sometimes it is worth being flexible with your label size, material, or adhesive to find a suitable stocked option that can do the job in hand without wrecking your budget.

How To Find Your Selected Self Adhesive Labels & Place An Order With Label Planet

There are a variety of search tools on the Label Planet website to help you find the perfect self adhesive labels.

  • Search By Pages: on our home page you will find a number of search by pages, which group our products by specific characteristics (e.g. waterproof labels, coloured labels, gloss labels, adhesive etc), or list our products according to specific characteristics (e.g. search by width, height, Avery code etc).
  • Product Search Bar: use this to search for a specific Label Planet product code. All of our codes begin with an LP – so you know they’re from us!
  • Alphabetical List: this list includes links to our range pages and our most popular search by pages.
  • Label Finder: enter the specifications that you need your self adhesive labels to meet and the Finder returns a list of Label Planet products that fit your requirements.

Get Your Designs Into Shape With Label Shapes From Label Planet

Wednesday, August 15th, 2018

Sometimes a really simple way to get creative with labelling projects is to make the most of the label shapes available. Here at Label Planet, we supply rectangular labels, round labels / circular labels, oval labels, and square labels to help you get your labelling project into shape.

How Can Different Label Shapes Make A Difference To Your Design?

Being selective with your label shapes is a brilliant way to add an extra dimension to your label design. They give a creative boost to any design and each label shape has its own set of benefits. label shapes from label planet

Rectangular Labels

You might think rectangles are a bit boring but they have plenty of benefits if you choose to use them. They are the easiest shape to work with and are available with rounded or square cut corners. Rectangles tend to offer the largest area to work within, which is great if you need to fit a lot onto your sticky labels. They also fit well onto items of all shapes and sizes.

Square Labels

If you’re looking for a subtle alternative to a standard rectangular shape, square labels are an ideal choice. They offer a slightly different shape that can help to draw the eye. Like rectangular labels, they offer a good space in which to add your design and are easy to work with. Our square labels have rounded corners.

Round Labels / Circular Labels

Round labels are a perfect way to add a decorative flourish to any labelling project. They naturally draw the eye and fit well on items of all shapes and sizes. They can be more difficult to design and trickier to print accurately – but if you’re willing to put in a bit of effort and have plenty of patience, they can produce extremely rewarding results.

Oval Labels

Perhaps the trickiest of the lot to design and print, oval labels offer an especially decorative shape. They are a great way to add a personalised touch and tend to create a home-made feel. You’ll need to make sure that your design suits the continuous curve of your blank labels to get the most out of this particular shape.

Media Labels

We also supply a few special shapes. These are label shapes designed for a particular purpose. For example, CD labels or DVD labels and box file labels or folder labels. If you need self adhesive labels for these particular applications, choosing media labels that match the shape of your items helps to make sure your sticky labels look professional – and ensures that their shape is fit for purpose.

Top Tips For Keeping Your Label Shapes In Line

Here are a couple of top tips that will help you to always keep your label designs in shape.

  • KEEP THINGS CENTRAL: where possible, always centralise your design. Your design will start from the centre of your sticky labels and expand outwards. This helps to create balanced designs that look professional, as well as making sure that you don’t end up accidentally cutting bits of your design cut off around the edges of your sticky labels.
  • WATCH OUT FOR THE EDGE(S): take extra care if your design extends all the way to the edge of your sticky labels. Your design must account for the shape of your sticky labels especially if you are adding design elements to their edges (see backgrounds and borders). You also need to account for the capabilities of your printer. Most standard printers cannot print all the way to the edge of an A4 sheet. If your printer doesn’t have an “edge-to-edge” printing capability, it may not be able to print the full area of all of your blank labels. You may need to adapt your design if this is an issue.
  • BIG BACKGROUNDS AND BOLD BORDERS: it is very tricky to get every single design to align perfectly with every single blank label on an A4 sheet. If you are using coloured backgrounds and/or borders, this can lead to white edging. This means that some of the edges of your sticky labels are left unprinted because your design hasn’t quite aligned perfectly. To avoid this problem, we recommend oversizing coloured backgrounds and borders. This allows them to overlap all of the edges of your sticky labels making it impossible for white edges to appear.

Create Your Own Super Sticker Sets With Round Labels From Label Planet

Wednesday, July 25th, 2018

This week, we’re celebrating circles and taking a look at all the fun things you can do with round labels – like making your own badges, stickers, rewards, and gift tags.

What Sort Of Super Stickers Can I Make With Round Labels and Circular Labels?

You can use round labels and circular labels to make:

Name Badges: perfect for networking events or kids’ birthday parties.

Buttons & Badges: make buttons / badges to hand out to people when they visit a particular place or participate in an event. Create branded gifts for corporate or charity events OR mementoes for special days – like birthdays and weddings.

Reward Stickers: round labels are the perfect way to make reward badges or stickers for children. Stick onto progress charts, into workbooks, or hand them out as badges to reward good behaviour and special achievements.

Gift Tags: add a personalised message or finishing touch to gifts and gift items.

What Sort Of Round Labels and Circular Labels Should I Choose?

Round labels and circular labels are available in all sorts of different label materials and adhesives. It depends what you want your stickers to look like, where they will be stuck, and how long they need to stay stuck for.

If you want to create a colourful design, you have two options:

  1. Select white labels that you can print with the background colour of your choice.
  2. Select coloured labels to give yourself a colourful background onto which you can add your design.

Our range of coloured materials includes pastel coloured labels, fluorescent labels, brown Kraft labels, and metallic gold and silver labels.

Alternatively, you can choose between our transparent labels or our white labels. We have options for matt or gloss finishes. A matt finish creates a dull, flat surface, while a gloss finish creates a bright, shiny surface.

How Do I Add A Design To My Round Labels and Circular Labels?

Round labels and circular labels can be trickier to design (and print) compared with rectangular or square labels. You have to align your design with the constantly curving edge of your blank labels.

Most software and printers have limited accuracy, so you’ll need to take extra care (and maybe use a bit of trial and error) to get your design just right.

At Label Planet, we supply Word label templates and PDF labels templates for all of our label sizes.

label planet round labels sizes

Three of our round label sizes (72mm, 63.5mm, and 40mm) also have compatible Avery codes. You can use built-in Avery label templates to design and print these label sizes. The other sizes are not supplied by Avery and so there aren’t any Avery label templates available.

If you are creating a sheet of stickers with the same design (or groups of designs), we recommend adding your design to the top left label and then using copy and paste to complete your template. We strongly recommend performing a test print onto blank paper before printing onto your sheet labels. This allows you to check for any misalignment and correct your label template (or printer settings) to resolve the issue – without wasting any of your sticky labels.

Top Tips For Designing Round Labels and Circular Labels

Pick Your Software Carefully

Graphics software is perfect for designing your own stickers. The label template will show the exact shape and layout of your round labels / circular labels. You simply need to add your design in the right place.

Not everyone has access to or knowledge of graphics packages, however, and they may need to use more basic software. This is usually word processing software like Microsoft Word.

You can create a perfectly good label template for round labels and circular labels using word processors. The design tools will be limited because the software is designed to handle text.

Word is not sophisticated enough to replicate the shape of round labels and circular labels. Instead, a grid of squares represents each blank label. Each round label fits inside a square so the circular label touches each of the four sides of the square.

You have to estimate where the edges of your round labels are when adding your design. This makes it especially important to do a test print of your label template.

When adding images in Word, you also need to change the Wrap Text format to Tight. The default setting (In Line With Text) limits where you can position your image. Changing the Wrap Text format gives you much more control (and accuracy). Click on your image and select the Picture Tools Format tab at the top of the page to change the Wrap Text.

Keep Your Label Shape In Mind When Creating Your Design

Many people who are creating round stickers instinctively want to use round elements in their design and add borders or design elements around the edges of their sticky labels. Unfortunately, it is difficult to align these elements perfectly. They can also end up emphasising any slight misalignment on your printed sheet labels. We recommend centralising your design so it starts from the centre of each label and expands outwards.

Be Aware Of White Edging

White edging is a bit of a misnomer because it actually refers to blank or unprinted areas around the edges of your sticky labels. This can happen if your label template and printer settings haven’t been set up properly. You simply need to adjust your template or print settings to fix the issue.

It can also happen because your software and printer don’t offer the precision required to print each label perfectly. Most printers are accurate to within a millimetre or two. This can mean that you end up with areas around the edges of your round labels that are unprinted.

While you can spend hours tinkering with your template and printer trying to correct this issue, it’s far simpler to oversize your design. This way it will overlap the edges of your sticky labels – making it impossible for white edging to appear.

This is a common issue when adding a coloured background or border. Coloured backgrounds are easily fixed by resizing your design. Borders are more difficult because you have a smaller area to overlap across the edges of your round labels. We recommend avoiding a border if possible. If you absolutely have to have a border, make it as thick as possible so it is easier to overlap.

Set Up Your Printer Properly

If your printer has a media bypass tray – use it! This is a secondary tray designed for thicker materials (like self adhesive labels) and offers a straighter path through the printer. This reduces the risk of misalignment caused by your sheets rotating as they are pulled through the printer. Load your sheet labels carefully so that they are sitting in a straight stack with the guides placed levelly along each side.

You also need to go into your Printer’s Properties or Printing Preferences before you print to ensure:

  • The page size is set to A4.
  • No scaling options are applied. For example, a percentage less than 100% or any “Fit To…” options.

Label Planet’s Top Tips For Labelling Bottles & Jars

Wednesday, July 4th, 2018

Many of our customers use our sticky labels as bottle labels and jar labels for all sorts of products. From homemade treats to cosmetics products, all of these customers need to make sure that important information about their products is clearly displayed on each container. Whether they contain branding information, contact information, ingredient lists, instructions for use, or health and safety warnings, these product labels need to stay firmly stuck for as long as they are needed.

Some struggle to pick a label size so we’ve gathered together our top tips for labelling bottles and jars.

bottle labels and jar labels - product labels

One label or two (or three)?

The first thing to consider is how many sticky labels to use on your bottles and jars.

A lot of people decide that they just want one product label. This saves time designing, printing, and applying your bottle labels and jar labels BUT it can create problems, such as…

  • Cramming all of your information onto one product label can look untidy and makes it harder to read the information. If you use large or wraparound labels, customers may end up missing information unless they rotate the container.
  • If your containers are quite small, the curved surface can make it harder for adhesives to form a successful bond. You may need to use a stronger adhesive or more flexible material to make sure your sticky labels stay stuck. Alternatively, you might try long, thin wraparound labels – so you can overlap the ends to help them stay stuck. While this can be an effective solution, it also makes the labels tricky to apply, harder to read, and they cover up more of your containers.

Instead, you may want to try splitting your information over two or more labels. Try creating “front” and “back” bottle labels or “lid”, “side”, and “bottom” labels for jars.

How much space is available for your bottle labels and jar labels?

Customers often ask us to recommend a label size for their bottles and jars – usually based on the volume that the containers hold. Unfortunately, this information is completely useless.

The way to choose a label size is to first look at the shaping of your bottles or jars. Product labels work best on flat surfaces OR on surfaces with regular shaping (like the curve of a bottle or jar). If you apply sticky labels over containers with irregular shaping (e.g. ridges or narrowing/widening shaping), they may start to peel away or won’t stick down properly at all.

This is because adhesive bonds are stronger when they form over a larger (regular) surface area. If you apply product labels onto a flat surface, your adhesive creates a bond over a larger surface area. If your surface has irregularities that create gaps between your container and your sticky labels, you will end up with a weaker adhesive bond.

Once you have identified the areas on your bottles and jars that are suitable for applying product labels, you need to measure the width and height of the available surface area. This will give you an idea of the label size that you should use for your containers.

We also recommending typing out the information that you want to include on your product labels. This helps you to choose a size that allows your design to fit (without resorting to tiny font sizes).

There is no standard “bottle or jar label size” because bottles and jars come in all shapes and sizes. It’s up to you to decide how much information you want to include on your containers. Then you need to choose how many sticky labels to use. Finally, you need to work out where you can apply sticky labels and measure the available space.

Finding The Right Bottle Labels and Jar Labels From Label Planet

Use our Search By Width and Search By Height pages to see if we supply the label size you need. Alternatively, you can try our Label Finder. This tool creates a shortlist of options based on the requirements that you select. So, you can select the measurements you need (and any other requirements) to see all of the Label Planet products that would make suitable bottle labels and jar labels for your containers.

Top Tips & Tricks For Printing Your Own Barcode Labels

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018

While it’s really easy to print your own barcode labels, there are a few tips and tricks you can use to make sure your barcode labels are the best that they can possibly be. In this post, we’ll talk about the little things you can do to make sure that your barcode labels simply work.

Barcode Labels – What Are Barcodes?

A barcode represents data in machine-readable form. There are two types – linear barcodes and matrix barcodes. Matrix barcodes are square or rectangular patterns of (usually) black and white cells/modules. The most common example is QR codes. Linear barcodes are patterns of parallel lines (black bars) and spaces (white intercharacter gaps). They also contain characters (representing the data encoded in the barcode) and a check character/digit (for validation). A blank space or “quiet zone” around the barcode marks the beginning and end of the barcode.

Matrix barcodes are scanned by image sensors and analysed by processors. To read a QR code, a processor uses the corner squares to determine the size, orientation, and angle of view. The remaining pattern of dots is converted into binary numbers and validated using an error-correcting algorithm.

An optical scanner is usually used to scan linear barcodes. The scanner directs light at the barcode. The black bars absorb light and the white gaps reflect light. The scanner converts the reflected light into an electrical signal. The fluctuations in the intensity of the reflected light cause the signal to oscillate and form a pattern, which is converted into digital information.

Barcodes can encode all sorts of data. The most common usage is storing manufacturer or product information so products can be tracked through manufacturing, shipping, storage, and sale. Barcodes are also extremely useful in the retail industry. They look up product information at point of sale, track stock, track shopping habits, and redeem coupons or vouchers. They can also track people and items in specific environments. For example, tracking employees and equipment onsite, tracking tickets and admissions, tracking parcels and mail, and directing airline luggage. In medical facilities they track patients, medication, surgical kits, equipment, supplies, and medical samples.

Barcode Labels – What Sticky Labels Should I Use To Print Barcode Labels?

While you can use a wide range of sticky labels as barcode labels, some work better than others. We recommend matt white labels – solid white in colour with a non-shiny surface.

Barcode readers and scanners rely on their ability to detect the difference between white and black areas. It is vital that the reader or scanner can detect exactly where each area begins and ends, in addition to detecting the beginning and ending of the barcode itself (via the quiet zone).

If you use sticky labels with a coloured or patterned background (or transparent labels that you stick over a coloured surface), you may reduce the contrast between the elements in your barcode and prevent readers/scanners from reading your barcodes accurately. Likewise, a gloss finish (i.e. a shiny surface) may influence the light reflected back into a reader/scanner, preventing an accurate result.

When it comes to picking the perfect label size, you need to make sure your barcode labels are slightly larger (and in particular longer) than your barcodes to keep a clear quiet zone. You also need to remember that smaller barcodes are harder to read accurately. The quality of your barcode image will also influence how well your barcode labels work.

Barcode Labels – What Print Settings Should I Use To Print Barcode Labels?

You should adjust your printer’s print settings because this results in crisp, clear print that ensures your barcodes will scan correctly. In addition to selecting a “Labels” or “Heavy Paper” print settings, we recommend increasing the print quality setting. Both options slow your printer down and as a result print your barcodes at the highest possible quality.

Order Barcode Labels From Label Planet Today!

It’s A (Big) Small World In The Label Planet Range Of Mini Labels

Wednesday, April 25th, 2018

Label Planet’s Guide To Mini Labels

The term mini labels can be used in a general way to simply refer to small label sizes. Here at Label Planet, we use it generally to refer to our smallest label sizes (LP84/46, LP189/25, and LP270/18). More specifically, we use it for one size in particular – LP65/38.

Also known as Return Address Labels, the LP65/38 label size measures 38.1mm wide by 21.2mm high. It is an extremely popular (and standard) size across the labelling industry. Compatible with the Avery Labels code L7651, this size is available in a wide range of materials and adhesives.

The Many Uses Of Mini Labels

Mini labels are the perfect size for applications where you need a small label to do a big job. They can be used to add short pieces of important information, to colour code items, to identify items, and to – quite simply – just get stuff organised.

These small labels offer a neat and discrete way to add a bit of additional information onto an item. They don’t take up room or make items look messy or cluttered. This means they make ideal (return) address labels, product labels and pricing labels on packaging, tracking labels and asset ID labels, seals on packaging and documentation, logo labels and company labels, and decorative stickers that can be applied onto just about anything to create a personal finishing touch.

The Many Kinds Of Mini Labels

At Label Planet, we supply our LP65/38 label size in ALL of our different materials and adhesives (that’s 30 different options). We also carry all of these products (except for the Coloured Removable Labels) as stocked items. You can order any of these mini labels in packs of 25 sheets available for same day despatch.

Find Your Perfect Match* With The Label Planet Label Finder

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

* Okay, we can’t find you your perfect match but we CAN help you find the perfect self adhesive labels for your label application.

Choosing the right self adhesive labels can turn out to be a bit more complicated than you’d like – especially if your label application involves some particularly tricky requirements.

If you’ve never wandered through the world of self adhesive labels before, it can be a bit bewildering when you realise exactly how many different choices you have to make. However, you DON’T need to be an expert in sticky labels to pick the perfect label! We’ve put together all of our experience of working in the labelling industry (and helping customers to find the self adhesive labels that are “just right”) and used it to create our LABEL FINDER.

The Label Planet Label Finder is designed to make the process of picking the perfect label as easy as possible so anyone can find the right sticky labels for their project in a few short clicks.

Using The Label Finder To Find Your Perfect Self Adhesive Labels

Instead of having to pick out the perfect label from ALL of the self adhesive labels available from Label Planet, the Label Finder creates a short list of options based on the sticky labels that are actually suitable for your application.

All you have to do is select a few key requirements for your self adhesive labels and the Label Finder will return a list of the sticky labels that match those requirements. For example, if you need removable labels you can enter this as a requirement and the Label Finder will ONLY show you self adhesive labels with a removable adhesive. If you need waterproof labels you can set this as a requirement and the Label Finder will show you all of our sticky labels that are also waterproof.

What Information Can I Use To Find The Perfect Self Adhesive Labels For My Project?

The Label Finder allows you to narrow down your choices using the following requirements:

  • LABEL USE: we’ve created sets of “recommended labels” for a variety of applications, so you can use this option to give you an idea of what sort of self adhesive labels you should be looking at for a specific kind of application.
  • PRINTER TYPE: use this option if you’ve only got a laser printer OR an inkjet printer. Some of our products can only be printed with one type of printer and are grouped as laser labels (print with a laser printer) or inkjet labels (print with an inkjet printer).
  • LABEL SHAPE: use this option if you know you definitely want rectangular labels, round labels, square labels, oval labels, or CD labels / DVD labels.
  • COLOUR: use this option to show a list of the label sizes available in a particular colour.
  • NUMBER PER SHEET: use this option if you’re looking for a particular label size but you can only remember how many sticky labels were on each sheet.
  • AVERY TEMPLATE CODE: use this option to see if we supply any self adhesive labels that are compatible with (use the same label size and layout as) Avery labels / label templates that you currently use.
  • MATERIAL: use this option to narrow down your choice to paper labels OR one of our synthetic waterproof materials.
  • ADHESIVE: use this option to narrow down your choices based on whether you need permanent labels, removable labels, or a label adhesive suitable for a particular application / environment (e.g. high tack labels, opaque labels, void labels, wash off labels, marine labels, or freezer labels).
  • FINISH: use this option to show a list of sticky labels with the type of finish that you prefer (choose from gloss labels, semi-gloss labels, and matt labels).
  • WATERPROOF: use this option to create a list that only contains waterproof labels.
  • LABEL WIDTH: use this option if your self adhesive labels MUST have a specific label width.
  • LABEL HEIGHT: use this option if your self adhesive labels MUST have a specific label height.
  • LABEL CODE: use this option to view a particular product that you’ve ordered from Label Planet before.
  • LABEL PLANET SIZE CODE: use this option to view all of the material options available for a particular label size.

A Guide To Label Planet’s “Popular” Label Sizes For Self Adhesive Labels

If you’ve taken a look through the home page of our website, you may have noticed an option called “Popular Sizes” and wondered what makes a particular label size “popular”. We’ve written this blog post to explain what our popular label sizes are and why they can be extremely useful…

What Is A “Popular” Label Size?

As you might imagine, our range of popular label sizes is made up of the sizes that are requested most often; they’re also the most popular sizes requested across the whole of the labelling industry.

What Are The Benefits Of Choosing “Popular” Self Adhesive Label Sizes?

There are a number of benefits to choosing a popular label size – most of which are the result of the fact that “popular” sizes tend to become “standard” sizes.

The labelling industry wants to manufacture label sizes that customers actually want to buy, which has led to certain sizes becoming a set of “standard” label sizes that are manufactured in extremely large volumes on a regular basis. This has a number of benefits for customers:

  1. Popular Label Sizes Are Readily Available

Manufacturers make self adhesive labels in these sizes ALL THE TIME, which means that they are often in stock and available for same day despatch. Bespoke label sizes are made to order, which means they have longer lead times during which the self adhesive labels will actually be made for a specific customer.

  1. Popular Label Sizes Are Available In Smaller Quantities

Smaller packs of self adhesive labels tend to be available when there is a ready supply of stock that can be broken down into smaller quantities. Bespoke label sizes are only produced in specific and requested quantities.

  1. Popular Label Sizes Are Cheaper

These sizes are produced in bulk, which makes them less expensive to produce compared to bespoke label sizes (that have additional manufacturing set up costs) – making them much cheaper to buy.

  1. Popular Label Sizes Are Better Supported

These label sizes are much more likely to be supplied with label templates and printing advice. It is also more likely that a compatible label template will be available in the software a customer wants to use to design and print their own self adhesive labels (such as the Avery Label Templates built in to Word).

  1. Popular Label Sizes Are Available In More Material & Adhesive Options

Popular sizes are used to create ranges of self adhesive labels in alternative label materials and label adhesives. While standard paper labels are available in a wider range of label sizes, if you want a different material or adhesive (used to make waterproof labels, transparent labels, coloured labels, removable labels, security labels, freezer labels, gloss labels, opaque labels, or high tack permanent labels) you will probably find that they are available in a limited range of label sizes (made up of “popular” / standard sizes).

What Label Sizes Are Included In Your “Popular” Group Of Self Adhesive Labels?

Our range of popular label sizes includes nine rectangular labels and four round labels as follows:

  • LP1/210: A4 labels measuring 210mm by 297mm
  • LP4/99: 4 sticky labels measuring 99.1mm by 139mm

The World Of Label Planet Has Expanded Once Again!

Brand New Label Sizes & Self Adhesive Labels Are Now Available

Over the last few months, we’ve been working hard to expand our range of self adhesive labels to give our customers even more choice when it comes to picking the perfect label.

We’ve introduced brand new label sizes, new size and material combinations, and we’ve added a variety of self adhesive labels to our stocked sizes and materials – meaning we’ve got an even bigger range of laser labels and inkjet labels available for same day despatch from stock in packs of 25 sheets.

Without further ado, here is a selection of the latest additions to our range of self-adhesive labels…

Coloured Labels & Kraft Labels

We’ve expanded our range of Kraft Labels to match our Coloured Labels and we’ve added two existing label sizes to the stocked section of both ranges – LP1/210 (1 coloured label per sheet measuring 210mm wide by 297mm wide) and LP36/49 (36 coloured labels per sheet measuring 48.8mm wide by 29.6mm high).

So, if you’re looking for sticky labels that offer a fun and decorative finish to any labelling project, now you’ve got even more choice! The LP1/210 label size is also a brilliant option if you want to create your own label sizes and shapes; simply print your designs onto these A4 labels and then cut out the shapes you need.

Gold Labels & Silver Labels

We’ve also expanded our range of metallic labels to include an amazing 44 label sizes in both gold labels and silver labels. Both ranges also feature 9 of our most popular label sizes as stocked items – including 6 rectangular labels and 3 round labels.

Gold labels and silver labels are a brilliant way to add a touch of luxury to items and are especially popular for use as gift labels, product labels, or address labels for extra special occasions!

Paper Labels

All of our special paper labels now include LP10/99 as a stocked label size; this particular label size features 10 self adhesive labels per sheet – each measuring 99.1mm wide by 57mm wide – and is compatible with a range of Avery labels (including J8173*, L7173*, L7973*, and L7992*).

This label size is really versatile and can be used for all sorts of label applications, including address labels, bottle labels, jar labels, and product labels.

Opaque Labels

We have supplied opaque labels (also known as blockout labels) for a few years but never carried these permanent labels as stocked items – until now! We’ve created a stocked section for this label range, which includes 12 self adhesive label sizes available for same day despatch from stock in packs of 25 sheets.

Opaque labels are a quick and easy way to cover up out of date or incorrect information on pre-printed materials (including leaflets and packaging) or to reuse / recycle old packaging by replacing existing print or sticky labels with new designs and/or information.

New Label Sizes

Finally, we’ve also added 10 brand new label sizes to all of our ranges – which means that all 30 of our self adhesive label materials and adhesives are now available in 10 additional label sizes! Our brand new label sizes are:

  • LP2/105: 2 blank labels per sheet, measuring 105mm wide by 297mm high with square cut corners
  • LP4/210: 4 blank labels per sheet, measuring 210mm wide by 74.25mm high with square cut corners
  • LP21/70: 21 blank labels per sheet, measuring 70mm wide by 42.42mm high with square cut corners
  • LP24/72: 24 blank labels per sheet, measuring 72mm wide by 21.15mm high with rounded corners
  • LP27/63: 27 blank labels per sheet, measuring 63.5mm wide by 29.6mm high with rounded corners
