Void Security Labels From Label Planet Keep All Items Safe & Secure

Wednesday, October 10th, 2018

Security labels and tamper evident labels increase the security of items. This week, we’re taking a closer look at our silver void security labels.

VOID Security Labels – What Are Security Labels?

The term security labels may be applied to any label designed to improve the security of labelled items. Security labels can improve the security of items in a number of different ways. They may act as a visual deterrent against tampering or theft, provide a means of tracking an object, and/or contain special features that prevent the production of counterfeit items.

Security labels known as Tamper Evident Labels provide visual proof of tampering. This can also act as a visual deterrent against such tampering occurring in the first place.

Tamper evident labels provide visual proof of tampering in different ways; removing a label usually leaves a section of that label behind.

VOID Security Labels – How Do Void Labels Work As Security Labels?

VOID security labels leave behind a message (usually the word “VOID”) on the label itself, the previously labelled item, or both. This method involves adding an extra layer to the label construction. There are three types of VOID security labels…

  • Total Transfer: the extra layer carries a printed void message. It separates from the face material (top layer) to leave the extra layer (and the void message) on the previously labelled item.
  • Non-Transfer: the extra layer carries a printed void message. It remains attached to the face material. The absence of the label and the void message on the back of the label serves as proof of tampering.
  • Partial Transfer: the extra layer is connected to the face material using a pattern release coating OR is connected to a pattern release adhesive. The extra layer divides in two – half remaining on the back of the face material and half on the adhesive. This leaves the void message on the reverse of the label itself and on the previously labelled item.

Our void security labels use a partial transfer, leaving a void message on the label and the previously labelled item. Any attempt to re-stick the label back down will not be able to disguise the split in the extra layer created during the first removal.

VOID Security Labels – What Are The Benefits Of Void Security Labels?

Our void security labels are made with silver polyester and a partial transfer VOID adhesive. They are tough, durable, and waterproof labels, which makes them ideal long life tracking labels. They will remain firmly in place for the lifetime of a labelled item or for the duration of storage and/or transportation. The material also suits applications with fluctuating or extreme temperatures (hot or cold), which is often an issue for appliances and electronics.

The colour draws attention to your information. This could include a company logo and/or contact information, health and safety warnings, instructions for use, or general security information.

Our silver polyester has a high quality matt finish. This produces a decorative and professional appearance, which is perfect for high value goods.

The adhesive bonds well with a range of materials and surfaces types. They can be used on (slightly) curved surfaces but flat surfaces are better. The polyester has a strong “memory” and is likely to “ping” up if applied over an edge or around a tightly curved surface. To label edges and curves, use a larger label size to provide a larger surface area for your adhesive to bond.

VOID Security Labels – What Kind Of Security Applications Do Void Security Labels Suit?

Security Labels On High Or Added Value Goods

Void labels act as a visual deterrent against tampering and theft. They also provide visual evidence of tampering. This improves the security of labelled items and can help to prevent unauthorised reselling.

Security Seals On Product & Document Packaging

Seal packaging used to store and/or transport high value goods or important documents. Opening the packaging marks both the seal and the packaging itself. Sticking the label back down cannot disguise a broken seal because of the divide in the extra layer.

Warranty Labels On High Or Added Value Goods

Goods sold with a warranty may have security labels applied. If products are tampered with in a certain way, the damage to or removal of warranty labels proves that the warranty has been voided by an individual’s actions or treatment of the product. They can display details about the warranty supplied with a particular product or contact information for the relevant manufacturer, distributor, or servicing company. They can also detail the servicing history of an item, including servicing dates and results. Warranty labels are especially popular for use on high value appliances and electronic devices.

VOID Security Labels – How Do I Print Void Security Labels & Tamper Evident Labels?

Our SVP material does require a little extra care to get the perfect print.

This is because the polyester material is metallised – coated with a thin layer of metal. Laser printers use heat (and pressure) to bond toner in place. The layer of metal reflects heat from the fuser unit, which increases the overall temperature applied during printing. You therefore need to use a print setting that applies less heat to get the correct print temperature.

The wrong settings may prevent your toner bonding properly and/or may cause your sheets to curl up and jam inside your printer.

We highly recommend test printing a few sheets to determine which print setting works best. Check your printer’s manual and/or the manufacturer’s website in case they have provided recommended guidelines for self adhesive labels and more specialised materials.

Make Your Items Safe & Secure With Our Tamper Evident Security Labels

Wednesday, October 18th, 2017

Labels can be a quick and easy way to add a little bit of extra security to a variety of items, from high value goods to important documentation. A label can be used not only to securely seal packaging, folders, and envelopes but to also increase the security of items by acting as a visual deterrent against unauthorised tampering AND by providing visual evidence that an item has been opened or otherwise damaged in some way.

There are a range of security labels available, including a group known as “Tamper Evident Labels”; these labels provide some form of visual evidence that someone has attempted to tamper with an item.

At Label Planet, we supply two kinds of Tamper Evident Labels: TAMPER EVIDENT VINYL LABELS (TEV) and SILVER VOID LABELS (SVP).

Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels

Our TEV labels are “frangible labels” designed to provide evidence of tampering by disintegrating into tiny pieces when any attempt is made to remove one of these labels. They are made with a strong permanent adhesive and a very thin, very fragile (hence “frangible”) vinyl face material, which means that the label disintegrates when you try to remove it – the result being that only a tiny fragment of the label is removed with the rest of the label remaining behind, as an indication that the label (and therefore the item) has been tampered with in some way.

Please note: it IS possible to (eventually) remove the entire label but it is extremely difficult and time consuming to make sure that every part of the label has been removed.

Our TEV labels are available in 11 stocked label sizes (available in 25 sheet packs for same day despatch from stock) and a further 33 made to order label sizes (available in 500 sheet boxes with up to five working days for despatch).

These labels can be (carefully) handwritten or printed using a laser printer – although, due to the fragile nature of the vinyl, you do need to take care when handling these labels to avoid damaging the material. These labels should be printed using a standard print setting (rather than a specific “Labels” or “Heavy Paper” setting) and we strongly recommend requesting a sample of these labels to make sure they are suitable for your requirements.

While they can be used on a range of surface types, they are best suited to solid inflexible surfaces where there is a fixed and consistent surface for them to bond with successfully (compared to flexible surfaces such as plastic bags or wrapping).

Silver Void Labels

Our SVP labels are “void labels” designed to provide evidence of tampering by leaving behind a message (the word “VOID”) when they are removed from an item. Our void labels are made with a silver matt metallic polyester face material and a “partial transfer” VOID adhesive; this is a permanent adhesive that is designed to split when a label is removed from an item – leaving part of the adhesive on the back of the label and part on the previously labelled item.

This makes these labels extremely popular for use as security seals (on product packaging and important document folders or envelopes), warranty labels on high value goods (to indicate that an item has been tampered with in a way prohibited by the terms of a warranty agreement), and as security labels on high value goods (to prevent items being resold illegally under a different name or brand).

Our SVP labels are available in 9 stocked label sizes (available in 25 sheet packs for same day despatch from stock) and a further 35 made to order label sizes (available in 500 sheet boxes with up to five working days for despatch).

These labels can be handwritten or printed using a laser printer; as the silver polyester has a metallised backing, we recommend using a standard print setting and NOT a specific “Labels” or “Heavy Paper” setting (this is because the metallised backing causes the labels to reflect the heat generated by laser printers, which can generate too much heat if the more specialised print settings are used).

You can find out more about our security labels, view all of the label sizes available, and place an order for your own tamper evident labels by visiting our dedicated range pages; go to the TEV range page for tamper evident vinyl labels or go to the SVP range page for void labels.

Keep Valuable Items Safe & Secure With Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels

Wednesday, May 24th, 2017

This week we’re taking a closer look at our Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels, which are one of the two kinds of security labels that we supply. Tamper evident labels are designed to improve the security of the item they are applied to by providing visual evidence that an item has been tampered with – which allows them to act as a visual deterrent against such tampering.

Our tamper evident vinyl labels combine a strong permanent adhesive with an extremely fragile vinyl face material; this means that, once a label has been applied onto a surface, any attempt to remove the label will result in the vinyl fragmenting into tiny pieces. This makes it almost impossible to remove the label in its entirety (and extremely time consuming to remove even a small amount of the label) and produces visual evidence that an attempt has been made to tamper with an item.

These labels are ideal for use as security labels – or security seals – on high value products, product packaging, and important documents. The label can be added as an additional seal to packaging, envelopes, or parcels to ensure that an item cannot be opened without leaving behind evidence that the item has indeed been opened. They can also be applied directly onto items (if appropriate) or packaging to clearly indicate the original owner, manufacturer, or supplier of that item (preventing that item from being resold without permission).

You can leave these labels blank, handwrite a message, or you can print a design (e.g. a company logo) or message using a laser printer.

We supply 11 label sizes of tamper evident vinyl labels in packs of 25 sheets, which are available for same day despatch from stock; we also supply a further 33 label sizes as made to order items, which have a 500 sheet minimum order quantity and take up to five working days for despatch.

To find out more about these brilliantly simply security labels or to place an order today, simply visit our Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels range page and select the size and quantity you need.

The Language Of Labels – A Quickfire Guide To Our Label Categories

Monday, January 30th, 2017

At Label Planet, we often group our labels into categories based on specific qualities and many of our product ranges take their names from the qualities that those labels possess. If you’re new to the world of labels, however, it can be a bit confusing if you aren’t sure what some (or all) of these terms mean – or at least what they mean in the specific world of labels and labelling. This short guide should help to make it clear what we mean when we use the following terms to describe our labels:

Permanent:
We use the word permanent to refer to labels that are made with a permanent adhesive; permanent adhesives are designed to create a strong bond between a label and an object that is difficult to break. It does NOT mean that these labels are impossible to remove; if someone is determined enough to remove a permanent label they will be able to do so (albeit with a serious amount of intent and effort and the likely result that both the label itself and the labelled item will be damaged in the process).

High Tack:
This refers to labels that are made with extremely strong, permanent adhesives; “tack” refers to the property of materials that allows them to adhere to a surface immediately upon contact – in other words, it describes how “sticky” a material is in a fluid or semi-fluid state. High tack labels, therefore, are highly sticky labels!

Removable:
We use the term removable to refer to labels that are made with a removable adhesive; removable adhesives are designed to create a bond between a label and an object so that the label can be removed cleanly and easily (without doing any damage or leaving behind any adhesive residue) when it is no longer needed. For this reason, removable labels may also be called “Temporary Labels”.

Finish:
This term refers to the qualities and properties of a material’s surface, including its appearance and texture. We supply three types of finish:

  • Gloss: gloss surfaces are generally very smooth and are highly efficient at reflecting light, which produces a decorative bright and shiny appearance.
  • Matt: matt surfaces are very poor at reflecting light, which creates a dull and non-shiny appearance.
  • Semi-Gloss: as a compromise between gloss and matt, semi-gloss surfaces do reflect light (but less efficiently than full gloss surfaces), which creates a more subtle shine.

Opaque:
Opaque materials do not transmit light; light cannot travel through these materials, which means that opaque materials cannot be seen through. Opaque materials are used to create “Blockout” labels that will prevent any existing print or design work from showing through a label, even if it is applied to a highly decorative surface. They are ideal for covering up existing print, recycling packaging, covering up errors, or simply to create a completely blank background onto which a new design or print can be added.

Transparent:
Transparent materials are extremely efficient at transmitting light; light travels through these materials, which means that you can see through transparent materials. Our transparent labels are not 100% transparent because they use an adhesive, which means that they may trap small air bubbles or particles of dust during application. Please note that we also use the term “clear” to refer to transparent materials.
If a material only transmits some light, then it will not be completely transparent – these labels are usually known as Transluscent or Frosted labels.

Waterproof:
Waterproof materials can survive exposure to or immersion in water – which means our waterproof labels are the best option to choose if you need labels for an application that may involve water, for example outdoor labels or labels for use on items that will be stored and used in kitchens or bathrooms.

Splashproof:
This is a term that we use to describe our GW (gloss laser labels) and SG (semi-gloss laser labels); both of these products are paper labels, which means that they are not waterproof BUT the coatings applied to these labels to give them their gloss and semi-gloss finishes do provide limited protection if the labels are lightly splashed with water or get slightly dirty (hence splashproof). These labels provide a compromise between using standard paper labels (with no protection against water damage) and our synthetic labels (which are completely waterproof) – especially if you need to work within a limited budget.

Compatible:
Essentially, when we describe one of our labels as being “compatible” with a label product from a different company, we mean that the label size and layout (but not the materials used to make the labels) are the same for our labels as they are for the other product. For example, many of our label products are described as “Avery Compatible” and we provide “Compatible Avery Template Codes” for customers to use when printing their labels. All this means is that the label size and layout of our labels is the same as those of Avery labels and you can therefore use the same template to print both our labels and Avery labels.

Special Use:
Also known as “Media Labels”, these labels are a group of products that were each originally created to suit a specific purpose but can also be used for a wider range of label applications. They tend to be sizes that were designed for use on storage devices and folders, such as CDs and DVDs, box files and lever arch files, or videos and data cartridges.

Plastic:
Plastic is a general term that can be used to describe any synthetic material made from a wide range of organic polymers. We have three plastic materials; polyester, polyethylene, and vinyl (our Tamper Evident Vinyl). When we use the term “Plastic labels”, we are referring to our polyester and polyethylene (and vinyl) labels.

Tamper Evident:
A type of security label; security labels are labels with special features that are designed to improve the security of the items they are used to label. Tamper evident labels have features that allow them to provide visual evidence that someone has tampered with an item. We have TWO tamper evident labels; our Silver Void Labels leave the message “VOID” behind when they are removed from an item, while our Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels will disintegrate into tiny pieces if someone attempts to remove them.

You can find even more label terms (along with their definitions) in our online Glossary. If you have any questions or queries about what a particular term means or if you need any assistance choosing the right label for your specific label application, you can get in touch with our Customer Service Team by phone or email to find out more.

Printing Tips: Getting The Best Possible Print On Metallic Polyester Labels

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2015

At Label Planet, we have TWO products that are made using metallic silver polyester; Silver Matt Metallic Polyester Labels and Silver Void Polyester Labels.

Both of these labels are made with the same face material (a metallic silver polyester with a matt finish), which has been coated with a thin layer of aluminium (metallised).

This means that these labels do need to be treated slightly differently than other laser labels when putting them through a printer. Standard laser printers use a combination of heat and pressure to apply toner to the surface of materials. With metallised materials, it is possible that some of the heat within the printer will be reflected off the surface of the labels, which can cause problems with the quality of print that can be achieved.

These labels don’t require as much heat to print correctly as other laser labels do and so we would advise printing these labels using your laser printer’s standard or “Normal” print settings and NOT using the specific “labels” or “heavy paper” settings (which apply more heat than standard settings).

You can find out more about these two products by visiting their range pages on our website:

SILVER MATT METALLIC POLYESTER LABELS: these labels are especially suited to use as long lasting tracking labels on products and are particularly popular for use on electronic and electrical goods.

SILVER VOID POLYESTER LABELS: designed specifically for use as Tamper Evident Security labels, these labels are designed to improve the security of high value goods by providing visual evidence (in the form of the word “VOID”) that a label has been removed and an item tampered with.

We’ve Got Seals! (AKA: The Seal Of Approval – Why A Label Can Be The Perfect Seal For All Kinds Of Documents & Packaging)

Tuesday, August 25th, 2015

Labels are the perfect way to add a seal to all sorts of items for all sorts of purposes.

You might have a document that is very important and needs a professional, sturdy seal or you might be sending a special piece of correspondence or an invite to a special event. You might be creating a certificate or award to celebrate a special achievement or victory by an individual or team. Alternatively, you might have product packaging that absolutely needs to remain intact and sealed until it is delivered to the customer or perhaps you want to add a decorative finishing touch or a bit of extra branding to your product packaging. Either way, a label is a quick and easy solution that is very simple to get sorted – and we’ve got a variety of labels to help you find the perfect seal for you.

Labels for serious seals
If you’re sending important documents to a client or customer, you might want to add a seal to those documents or the envelope they are delivered in. Perhaps you want to add a mark as a kind of official sign off or approval, or you might simply want to make sure that your documents have a professional finish by adding a smart, branded seal to your correspondence.

We suggest: Gloss Labels, Premium Quality Paper Labels, Transparent Labels

Labels for celebration seals
If you’re sending out invitations to a very special occasion or sending a card or gift in celebration of a particularly special day, you might want to add a fun finishing touch to your invites and/or envelopes. We have many customers who want to add a little something extra, whether they want something fabulous and fun or something decorative and classy – and a seal for your invitations, cards, or envelopes is a brilliant way to add your own personal touch.

For example, you might be sending a gift or card for a special birthday or anniversary and want a seal to match, whether that’s a seal in the favourite colour of the birthday girl or boy, a seal with a personal message, or a seal that suits the occasion (e.g. a red label for a ruby wedding anniversary).

You might be sending out invitations for a special birthday party and want to add a personal message to each invite – you could print your message onto a label and use them to seal the envelopes or you might want a set of printed labels that will make finishing off your invites that much quicker.

We also get a lot of requests from soon to be brides and grooms who want to make sure that their invitations are every bit as special as their big day. Whether they want a label that matches their colour scheme or they’ve chosen the perfect paper and the perfect envelope for their invites and want a transparent seal that won’t cover up the design they’ve chosen, using a label as a seal is the perfect way to get that personal touch for those extra special invites.

We suggest: Coloured Labels, Fluorescent Labels, Gold & Silver Labels, Transparent Labels

Labels for successful seals
You might be designing your own certificates or awards or perhaps you want to add your own congratulations or “seal of approval” to existing documents. Whether you’re creating a certificate to reward progress and achievement in a school, rewarding success by individuals or teams in your company, creating a family reward system at home, running a competition for a social or activity group, or creating certificates for participants and winners in standalone events (such as sporting events, charity events, local events, or competitions in the arts, music, or horticulture), adding a “seal of approval” is a lovely finishing touch to help make your certificates or awards extra special.

You can use different colours to denote different levels of achievement, such as Gold for first place or for passing an exam with “Distinction” and Silver for second place or for passing an exam with “Merit”, or to distinguish between successes in different events, subjects, or classes.

We suggest: Coloured Labels, Fluorescent Labels, Gold & Silver Labels

Labels for security seals
Companies sending or supplying high value goods often want to make sure that company or product details remain with an item throughout storage and transport, or may want to add a seal to their products to secure the packaging, deter thieves, and provide evidence if any attempt is made to interfere with an item before it reaches a customer.

We supply two special “Tamper Evident” label products, which are designed specifically for use as security labels. These labels can be applied directly onto goods or onto product packaging. They improve the security of products by providing evidence if an item is opened or tampered with; our Silver Void labels leave the message “void” on the item and on the label if an attempt is made to remove them, while our Vinyl Tamper Evident labels will disintegrate into pieces (preventing the label from being removed) if someone attempts to remove them.

We suggest: Silver Void Labels, Vinyl Tamper Evident Labels

Labels for decorative seals
Finally, if you’re a company selling products, you might want to add a seal to your product packaging that includes your company branding, promotes a particular message about or from your company, shows off the details of a special offer, sends a personalised message to your customers, or gives your items a finishing touch that is both professional and decorative in appearance.

We find that our more decorative label options are popular for branding and personalising packaging, with many customers opting for one of our coloured labels (we have six pastel colours, five fluorescent colours, brown Kraft labels, and gold and silver labels), while our gloss labels prove popular for adding professional product labels to all kinds of items. Our transparent labels are a common choice for use when packaging needs a seal to provide a bit of extra security and sturdiness either during storage, display, or delivery.

We suggest: Coloured Labels, Fluorescent Labels, Gold & Silver Labels, Kraft Labels, Transparent Labels

Totally Frangible and Utterly Destructible: Meet Label Planet’s Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels

Thursday, July 9th, 2015

You might be wondering just what exactly does “Frangible” mean? Or what makes something “Destructible”? Or what is a “Tamper Evident Label”? And what makes them so secure anyway? Well never fear, because this post is here to give you all the answers!

FRANGIBLE
“Frangible” is a term used to refer to materials that are easily damaged or destroyed; they tend to have very little internal strength and structural integrity, which means that if they are subjected to even the smallest amount of tear stress they will fragment into tiny pieces.

DESTRUCTIBLE
Unsurprisingly, “destructible” is simply a word used to refer to something that is easy to destroy!

TAMPER EVIDENT
“Tamper Evident” is a term used in the labelling industry to describe label products that are designed to produce evidence of any attempt to tamper with a label (and therefore the item that a label was applied to). This “evidence” takes many different forms – but is usually a visual indicator – and is produced in a variety of ways using a variety of materials.

TAMPER EVIDENT SECURITY LABELS
“Security Label” is a general term used to describe any label product that is intended to improve the security of the item to which it is applied. These labels might act as a visual deterrent, track the location of an object, prevent counterfeiting, or provide evidence that a label (and therefore an item) has been tampered with. In labelling, the term “Security Labels” is usually used to refer specifically to “Tamper Evident Labels”; in other words, any label that is designed to provide evidence (usually visual) of any attempt to tamper with the label.

These labels, therefore, improve the security of an item that they are applied to by acting as a visual deterrent to anyone who might want to damage or steal an item, and by providing visual evidence that someone has tampered with the label (and therefore the item).

LABEL PLANET’S TAMPER EVIDENT VINYL LABELS (TEV)
So, that’s what our Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels are all about. These security labels are made from a special cast vinyl that is extremely frangible and have a strong, permanent adhesive. Once one of these labels has been applied to an item, any attempt to remove the label will result in the vinyl disintegrating into pieces; this means that it is difficult to pull off any more than tiny pieces of the label and the remaining fragments stay firmly in place as a clear indication that the label (and therefore an item) has been tampered with.

These labels are ideal for providing a deterrent to anyone who might be considering damaging or stealing high or added value items, and for proving any attempt to tamper with the label/item; they can be applied directly to these items or (if it isn’t possible, appropriate, or desirable to apply a label directly onto an item) onto the packaging that such items are stored or sold in.

We have nine sizes of tamper evident vinyl labels available for same day despatch from stock (25 sheet minimum order quantity) and a wide range of sizes available to order (500 sheet minimum order quantity).

Please visit the Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels range page to find out more, read the Material Specification Sheet, view the sizes available, or buy your labels now.

Leaving A Void: A Closer Look At “VOID” Security Labels

Tuesday, July 7th, 2015

Today, we’re taking a closer look at our Silver “VOID” Polyester Labels (SVP).

These labels are one example of “Tamper Evident” labels; known as such because they provide evidence of any attempt to tamper with the labels (and therefore the items they are applied to).

Tamper Evident labels tend to leave a visual indication of tampering and with “VOID” labels this is achieved through the use of special adhesives, coatings, and/or laminates. Labels are made up of a number of layers and “VOID” labels take advantage of this layering to produce evidence of tampering. When an attempt is made to remove a “VOID” label, all or part of the adhesive layer will separate from the rest of the label and so indicate that the label has been tampered with.

There are three kinds of “VOID” labels; total transfer, non-transfer, and partial transfer. Total transfer labels have an extra layer (usually a special coating) between the face material and the adhesive; when the label is removed the coating (which is usually printed with a “VOID” message) and the adhesive remain in place to indicate that the label has been removed. With non-transfer labels, the “VOID” message is usually printed on the back of the face material or an extra layer (again a special coating), which will be revealed when the label is removed.

The most common type of “VOID” label, however, is the partial transfer; these labels use “pattern coating” to create the “VOID” message on both the label itself and the item that was labelled. Some use a pattern release coating between the face material and an extra layer (of special coating) or a pattern release adhesive; in either case, when a label is removed the bottom layer will be split between the surface of the item and the label. With our “VOID” labels, the adhesive that remains on the item spells out “VOID” in block capital letters, while the same message is also formed on the label itself where areas of adhesive are now missing.

“VOID” labels can be used to improve the security of high or added value items in a number of ways; if applied directly onto an item they will act as a visual deterrent against damage or theft and will indicate if any attempt has been made to tamper with the label (and therefore the item); where it is impossible, inappropriate, or undesirable to label an item directly they can be used as security seals on packaging to deter people from opening the item (who shouldn’t!) and to indicate when an item has been opened; and they can be used as Warranty Seals, which will act as a visual indicator that the warranty on an item has been voided (usually by an individual damaging, mishandling, or misusing an item in a way that would void any agreed warranty).

Our Silver “VOID” Polyester Labels are supplied on A4 sheets and are suitable for use with laser printers. We have nine sizes available for same day despatch from stock (25 sheet minimum order quantity) and a full range of sizes available to order (500 sheet minimum order quantity).

Visit the Silver “VOID” Polyester Labels range page to find out more about these labels, to view the Material Specification Sheet for this product, view the sizes available, or to simply buy.

New Products: We’ve Got Three, Yes THREE, Brand New Label Products

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Yes, we’ve been busy this summer and we’ve got three brand new label products to introduce to our customers.

First up we have two new security label products: Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels and Silver “VOID” Polyester Labels.

TAMPER EVIDENT VINYL LABELS (TEV)
These labels are designed to increase the security of items by providing evidence of any attempt to tamper with the label (and therefore the item that the label is applied to). These labels are made with an extremely fragile cast vinyl material and a strong, permanent adhesive. Once a label has been applied, any attempt to remove the label will cause the vinyl to disintegrate into tiny pieces, making it impossible to remove the label in its entirety and providing visual evidence of tampering.

MATERIAL: Matt White Cast Vinyl
ADHESIVE: Strong Permanent Adhesive
PRINTER COMPATIBILITY: Laser Only
LABELLING APPLICATIONS: Security Labels on High or Added Value Products/Items OR Security Seals on High or Added Value Product Packaging

SILVER “VOID” POLYESTER LABELS (SVP)
These labels also provide evidence of any attempt to tamper with the label (and therefore the item that the label is applied to). These labels are made with a silver polyester and a special partial transfer “VOID” adhesive. If an attempt is made to remove one of these labels, the word “VOID” will appear on both the item that was labelled and the label itself; this means that it is evident that a label/item has been tampered with and makes it impossible to reuse the label to hide the fact that an item has been tampered with.

MATERIAL: Matt Metallic Silver Polyester
ADHESIVE: Strong Permanent “VOID” Adhesive
PRINTER COMPATIBILITY: Laser Only
LABELLING APPLICATIONS: Security Labels on High or Added Value Products/Items, Security Seals on High or Added Value Product Packaging, OR Warranty Labels/Seals

Our third product is a new colourful addition, made with Brown Ribbed Kraft paper.
BROWN RIBBED KRAFT LABELS (BRK)
These labels are made with an uncoated, unbleached ribbed kraft paper, which means they have a natural brown colouring with a subtle touch of pattern and texture. Supplied on A4 sheets with a permanent adhesive and suitable for use on laser and inkjet printers, these labels are particularly popular for use on homemade or hand crafted products and for use when an individual or business wants to use products that are more environmentally friendly.

MATERIAL: Brown Ribbed Kraft Paper
ADHESIVE: Permanent Adhesive
PRINTER COMPATIBILITY: Inkjet and Laser
LABELLING APPLICATIONS: Product/Packaging Labels, Address Labels, Marketing & Promotional Labels, OR General Purpose Craft Labels

All of these products currently have NINE sizes available for same day despatch from stock (25 sheet minimum order quantity) and a full range of sizes available to order (500 sheet minimum order quantity). Find out more here:

Get Secure With Label Planet’s Brand New Security Label Products

Monday, June 29th, 2015

We’ve just introduced two brand new security label products to our range, so here’s a post to explain exactly what these labels are designed to do and how they do it.

There are all kinds of “Security” label products, which use different techniques to provide protection for high value or added value items that people want to keep safe. They may be used to act as a visual deterrent, track the location of an object, prevent counterfeiting, or provide evidence of tampering, and are often made using specialty materials, adhesives, and inks.

So which methods do our Security Labels use?
Both of our new products are “Tamper Evident Labels”; this term describes labels that are designed to provide evidence of any attempt to remove or tamper with the label – this should both prove when a label has been tampered with and provide a deterrent to anyone who wishes to steal or damage an item. Different tamper evident labels use different methods to indicate that they have been tampered with – our products make use of a frangible material and a special “VOID” adhesive.

Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels – FRANGIBLE FACE MATERIAL
These labels have a permanent adhesive and a face material made from a special type of vinyl, which has been designed to be extremely fragile. This means that, once a label has been applied to an item, it is extremely difficult to remove the entire label.

If any effort is made to remove the label, the vinyl disintegrates into tiny fragments; this means that only tiny pieces of the label can be removed (and with great difficulty) and the fragments left behind clearly indicate that the label has been tampered with.

These labels are ideal for applications where it is absolutely vital that a label cannot be removed (in its entirety) from an item or that there is clear, visual evidence that someone has attempted to remove the label. These labels may be applied directly onto items to deter efforts to tamper with or remove the item OR they may be applied onto packaging as security labels or security seals where they will clearly indicate if any attempt has been made to open the item.

Silver “VOID” Polyester Labels – “VOID” ADHESIVE
These labels are made with silver polyester and a special “VOID” permanent adhesive. “VOID” adhesives are designed to leave a message (e.g. “VOID”) when a label is removed as an indicator that an item has been tampered with. Our labels use a partial transfer adhesive, which means that the “VOID” message appears on both the item that was labelled and the label itself.

“VOID” labels can be used in a variety of ways. Some are applied directly onto high or added value items to deter individuals from stealing or tampering with those items and to provide visual proof of tampering. They can also be used as security seals on packaging to indicate when an item has been opened – usually if it is inappropriate, impossible, or undesirable to apply a label directly to an item. Finally, they can also be used as warranty labels; many high or added value goods are sold with a warranty and if these items are mishandled or misused a “VOID” label can be used to clearly indicate that an individual has voided the terms of the warranty in some way.
