Super Useful Reasons To Choose Splendid Synthetic Labels

January 17th, 2018

If you’ve ever printed your own blank labels (or simply used sticky labels before), you probably used paper labels – which are extremely versatile sticky labels in their own right.

However, this week we’re celebrating synthetic labels – which have a huge range of advantages, especially when you need self adhesive labels that can offer just a little bit extra…

SYNTHETIC LABELS

These are self-adhesive labels made with a synthetic (man-made) face material; the most popular synthetics for use as adhesive labels are polyester, polyethylene, polyolefin, and vinyl. Each of these materials has a broad range of useful properties, including durability and flexibility, and they are all relatively easy and cost effective to manufacture.

WATERPROOF LABELS

Synthetic labels are waterproof, which is ideal if you need self adhesive labels that will survive outdoors OR indoors where they might come into contact with water (or other liquids). To create waterproof labels, you need a laser printer; this is because laser printers use a dry printing process (applying heat and pressure) to bond toner onto a surface – creating waterproof print.

Inkjet printers CAN produce waterproof print BUT ONLY if you use a specialist inkjet printer and specialist inkjet inks. Standard desktop inkjet printers cannot process specialist inks and tend to use water-based inks, which run and/or smudge if they get wet – or get handled a lot.

All of our synthetic labels are waterproof and THREE of our waterproof labels (MWP, MWPE, and MWPO) also qualify as marine labels – i.e. they can be used in marine conditions – because they are made with synthetic face materials AND a marine standard adhesive. These self adhesive labels have to pass extremely strenuous tests (including submersion in sea water at mid-tide for three months) to achieve the marine standard – which is generally accepted to also be a marker of sticky labels that are extremely tough and durable.

TRANSPARENT LABELS

Synthetic materials are also used to make transparent labels; ideal if you want to create window stickers or need to add extra information or design work onto a pre-printed surface.

They’re perfect product labels or retail labels when you need to add extra information onto pre-printed product packaging AND perfect address labels for envelopes or packaging that have been chosen for a special event (such as wedding invitations or parcels being sent as gift items with special wrappings).

We supply options for transparent matt labels, transparent gloss labels, transparent permanent labels, transparent removable labels, transparent laser labels, and transparent inkjet labels. While all of our transparent labels are not “frosted” or “translucent”, neither are they “glass clear” – tair bubbles and dust may be trapped by the adhesive during the application of a label, which prevents them having a truly 100% transparent finish. You can improve the overall finish by taking extra care during the application; start with one edge and then smooth the label down from that side to the other, applying firm pressure to help avoid the formation of bubbles.

LONG LIFE TRACKING LABELS

While paper labels are easily torn or marked over time, synthetic labels are tough and durable, which makes them ideal for use as long life tracking labels – especially on items that need to be shipped long distance or that will spend long periods of time moving in and out of storage facilities. Synthetic labels are difficult to tear and, while they may get marked over time, they can be wiped clean and dry because they are waterproof.

If you need long lasting address or shipping labels OR asset I.D. labels to keep track of high value stock or company equipment, synthetic labels are a quick and easy way to safely and securely label these items with self adhesive labels that will last for the life time of those items.

SECURITY LABELS

Finally, synthetic labels can be used to create security labels; these are self adhesive labels that are designed to provide visual evidence of tampering, which improves the security of high value items by providing a visual deterrent against theft or tampering.

At Label Planet, we supply two different kinds of security labels; our Tamper Evident Vinyl Labels fragment into tiny pieces (preventing the whole label from being removed), while our Silver Void Labels have an adhesive layer that splits to leave behind the message “VOID” when a label is removed from an item.

Buy SYNTHETIC LABELS from Label Planet

Synthetic labels are always going to be a more expensive option because of the specialised materials involved BUT they can offer properties that paper labels simply cannot provide AND they’re ideal if you need self adhesive labels that can survive in more extreme conditions and environments.

To view all of the different synthetic labels available from Label Planet, visit our LIST OF ALL MATERIALS page and scroll down to the middle section – entitled “Waterproof Labels in Polyester, Polyethylene, and Polyolefin”. This table shows basic information about each product range (including a material description, adhesive type, waterproof status, and printer compatibility); to find out more about any of our synthetic labels, simply click on the “View Products” link to read detailed product information and view the label sizes available – to buy, click on the label size you want to order and select the quantity you need.

Put Our Self Adhesive Labels To The Test With Our Label Sample Request Service

January 10th, 2018

At Label Planet, we believe in doing everything we can to help our customers choose the perfect self adhesive labels for their projects. From address labels to product labels (and everything inbetween), we offer the widest possible range of options to ensure that you can find the sticky labels you need in the Label Planet range.

We know, however, that it can be difficult to choose just one label size / shape / material / adhesive from all of the options on offer – especially if you’ve never printed your own A4 labels before now.

This is why we offer a completely free LABEL SAMPLE service whereby you can request a few label sizes, shapes, materials, and adhesives to help you to find “the one” that’s perfect for your project.

To request a free sample of any of our blank labels, give us a call or fill in our online request form.

If you aren’t sure which sticky labels to choose, simply let us know as much information about your label application as possible (i.e. what you need self adhesive labels for and what you’d like them to look like) and we’ll put together a selection of the blank labels that best fit your requirements.

For example, let us know if you need laser labels (for a laser printer) or inkjet labels (for an inkjet printer), if you have any preference for coloured labels / kraft labels / fluorescent labels / white labels / gloss labels / transparent labels, if you need waterproof labels / security labels / freezer labels / bottle labels and jar labels, or if you have any preferences for a particular label size.

This helps us to make sure that the sample labels we send are suitable for your particular label application.

You can then use your sample to choose the right colour or finish, the right type and strength of label adhesive, and the right label size for your application. You can also use your sample to replicate your label application as closely as possible – to make sure that the self adhesive labels you choose will actually work under the conditions of your label application – and to give yourself a test run at printing a label template accurately.

We try to fulfil sample requests same or next working day; samples are posted out via Royal Mail’s first class service as standard.

Visit our website to view all of the label sizes and materials available and then head over to our sample request page (or give us a call) to request a label sample today!

Wishing You All A Happy New Year From The Label Planet Team!

January 2nd, 2018

Hello!

We are back in the Label Planet offices (just about!) and we’d like to start by wishing all of our customers a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We hope you had a wonderful time celebrating the New Year with friends and family (and doesn’t it all seem like it was just yesterday…)!

Our computers have been fired up and we’re working our way through all of the orders we received over the Christmas holidays – as well as our emails. We’ll do our best to process as many orders and respond to as many emails as possible; we hope to have everything back up to speed by tomorrow.

If you’ve got any questions or queries about an order that you’ve already placed or an order that you want to place, hopefully these FAQs should answer your enquiry.

Why haven’t I received the self-adhesive labels that I ordered before Christmas?

If you received an email confirmation indicating that your printer labels were despatched before Christmas, then it depends on the quantity of blank labels you ordered (and the shipping service you requested).

Small orders (less than 200 sheets) are despatched by Royal Mail’s first class service as standard; this is NOT a guaranteed service and is liable to experience delays over the Christmas period (and so may still be on the way to you). If your self adhesive labels do not arrive by the end of the week, please get in touch to let us know.

Medium orders (200-475 sheets) are despatched via next working day carrier service as standard and so SHOULD have been delivered and signed for at your chosen delivery address. Please contact our Customer Service Team so that we can check the tracking information for your order.

Large orders (200+ sheets) are despatched via next working day carrier service as standard – where stock is available or once your items have been made. If your A4 labels haven’t arrived then they are most likely scheduled for manufacture and despatch from our warehouse this week. We will do our best to work through these orders as quickly as possible; if you need a firm despatch date then please get in touch with our Customer Service Team who will be able to confirm the status of your order with our warehouse.

If you did NOT receive an email confirming that your A4 labels were being despatched, then it is more than likely that your order is sitting in our “To Do” pile and will be processed today or tomorrow.

If you haven’t received ANY confirmation emails from us (including an initial payment confirmation and order confirmation) then you have either provided us with an incorrect email address, our emails have landed in your spam folder, or there was a problem with your payment. Please contact our Customer Service Team for further assistance.

Why haven’t I received a response to the email/sample request I sent to you over Christmas?

Our office was closed for Christmas so we were not available to respond to any messages sent to us over the holidays (whether via email / Facebook / Twitter / fax / post / voicemail / messenger pigeon etc). We will do our best to work through any and all messages received over Christmas – we prioritise orders before catching up with Christmas correspondence and sample requests, so please bear with us.

If I order A4 labels from you today, when will they be despatched (and delivered)?

SMALL ORDERS (less than 200 sheets): we are aiming to despatch all small orders today or tomorrow via Royal Mail’s first class service (up to 4:30pm). If you upgrade your order to a next day delivery option, we will prioritise your order to ensure it is despatched same day.

MEDIUM ORDERS (200-475 sheets): we are aiming to despatch all medium orders today or tomorrow via next working day carrier service (up to 3pm). Orders for delivery to Northern Ireland (large orders only), Republic of Ireland, Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly, and the Channel Islands are sent via 2 day carrier service.

LARGE ORDERS (500+ sheets): we are currently working through a backlog of orders so our despatch estimates depend on the items you are ordering. Standard paper labels are kept in stock (and have shorter lead times) so these items are likely to be despatched early this week, while other made to order self adhesive labels will be subject to (at least) five working days for despatch. You can contact our Customer Service Team to check on stock availability and/or lead times for the blank labels you wish to buy.

If we haven’t answered your particular question or query here, you can always get in touch with our Customer Service Team who are available 9am-5pm (Mon-Fri).

We Wish You All A Very Happy Christmas!

December 22nd, 2017

It’s our last day here in the Label Planet office and we’d like to start by saying THANK YOU to all of the customers who have bought self adhesive labels from us over the last twelve months.

We’ve had a simply brilliant year and a large part of that is down to our equally brilliant customers! So thank you – we hope you’ll be back to visit in 2018!

We wish you all a Happy Christmas and we hope that your (winter holi)days are both merry and bright.

Merry Christmas To All & To All A Good Night!

FAQs For Last Minute Orders Of Self Adhesive Labels

December 18th, 2017

There are only FIVE days left before we shut down the Label Planet office for Christmas, which means you have FIVE days left to place a last minute order for Christmas labels.

This post contains all of the answers to the FAQs that we receive every year around Christmas as a guide to placing a last minute order of self adhesive labels from Label Planet.

When are you open this week?

9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Can I still order blank labels for delivery BEFORE Christmas?

Yes, depending on:

  • The product and quantity of blank labels you are ordering
  • The delivery address for your order of self adhesive labels
  • The shipping options available for your order of sticky labels

Why does it matter what product and quantity I need?

ORDERS OF 500+ SHEETS: these items are despatched same day via carrier (up to 3pm) where stock is available; standard paper labels are kept in stock, while other materials and adhesives are made to order – at this time of year, the demand for self adhesive labels means that our lead times increase to 7+ working days, which means we cannot manufacture and despatch these items for delivery before Christmas.

PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE TEAM TO CHECK STOCK AVAILABILITY

ORDERS OF 200-475 SHEETS: orders are despatched same day (up to 4pm) via carrier (next day service for UK mainland and 2 day service for Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scottish Highlands & Islands, and Islands With UK Postcodes).

ORDERS OF LESS THAN 200 SHEETS: orders are despatched same day (up to 4:30pm) via Royal Mail’s first class post as standard. Royal Mail do NOT guarantee first class items will be delivered next day and this service is likely to see delays at this time of year, which is why we recommend upgrading to a special delivery service.

What special delivery options are available?

Medium and large orders are despatched via next working day carrier service as standard (2 day for non-UK mainland), although we do have timed delivery services available (e.g. pre-10:30 delivery, pre-12 delivery etc) – contact our Customer Service Team by phone to find out more.

Small orders are despatched by Royal Mail’s first class service as standard; we STRONGLY recommend upgrading to Royal Mail’s Special Delivery Guaranteed service (next day delivery by 1pm). The shipping fee depends on the quantity of blank labels being ordered and you can upgrade online (after you have entered your delivery details) or by phone.

We also have a pre-9am delivery service and a Saturday delivery service for small orders; please phone our Customer Service Team to request either of these options.

Why does my delivery address matter?

Deliveries to Northern Ireland (large orders only), Republic of Ireland, Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly, and the Channel Islands tend to take (at least) a day extra compared to delivery to the UK mainland. Medium and large orders (200+ sheets) are sent via 2 day carrier service, while small orders being delivered to Ireland are sent via Royal Mail’s International Standard service.

So what are your last despatch dates?

WEDNESDAY – Last orders for:

  • Delivery to Northern Ireland (200+ sheets), Republic of Ireland, Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly, and the Channel Islands – UP TO 3PM.
  • Small orders being delivered to UK mainland & Northern Ireland via STANDARD delivery (Royal Mail’s first class service) – we cannot guarantee that these items will definitely arrive before Christmas – UP TO 4:30PM.

THURSDAY – Last orders for:

  • Large and medium orders (200+ sheets) being delivered to UK mainland via carrier service – UP TO 3PM (large orders) / 4PM (medium orders).
  • Small orders being delivered to UK mainland and Northern Ireland via SPECIAL delivery (Royal Mail’s Special Delivery Guaranteed service) – UP TO 4:30PM.

FRIDAY – Last orders for:

  • Small orders (less than 200 sheets) being delivered to UK mainland via SPECIAL SATURDAY delivery (Royal Mail’s Saturday Delivery Guaranteed service) – UP TO 4:30PM.

This service can ONLY be requested by phone; we CAN place orders of 200-250 sheets on this service if you wish but this does have a much higher shipping cost due to the weight of the items being delivered.

Will you stop accepting orders before Christmas?

NO; but if your items are out of stock OR you order after our last despatch dates your self adhesive labels will NOT arrive before Christmas.

Orders despatched via Royal Mail’s first class service that don’t arrive before Christmas will usually be delivered in the days after Christmas when service in your area resumes. Medium and large orders will be despatched via carrier when we re-open in the new year.

How do I get in touch with you?

Email us at info@labelplanet.co.uk or give us a call on 01270 668076.

What happens if I place an order after you close for Christmas?

Nothing – until we reopen at 9am on Tuesday 2nd January 2018.

Please note: we are more than happy for customers to email us with questions and queries over the Christmas Holidays but we will NOT answer any enquiries until the office reopens in January – when we will do our best to answer as quickly as we possibly can.

Quick Tips For Last Minute Address Labels & Gift Tags

December 13th, 2017

If this is the year that you’re going to get truly creative for Christmas – but you’ve left it to the last minute – try our Quick Tips for Last Minute Christmas Labels!

Whether you’re making your own Christmas address labels, Christmas card labels, or Christmas gift tags, it’s really easy to create a set of seasonal address labels and gift tags with that extra special personal touch.

  • Personalise Christmas address labels with photographs, images, a Christmas-themed background, or a festive font!
  • Choose self-adhesive labels with a festive feel to give yourself a ready made seasonal background for your Christmas wishes or addresses.
  • Coloured labels are ideal Christmas labels and we offer pastel coloured labels (for a subtle touch of Christmas colour), fluorescent labels (for adhesive labels that are merry and bright), gold labels and silver labels (for a touch of seasonal shimmer), and brown Kraft labels (for a truly homemade feel).
  • Download label templates from our website; we have Word templates (for Word, Pages, LibreOffice etc) and PDF templates (for Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator etc).
  • Add your seasonal design to the first label in your label template and then use copy and paste to quickly AND accurately fill in the rest of the blank labels.
Top tip: in Word, move your cursor to the bottom left corner of the first label and triple click your mouse (left button) to select the content AND the formatting options you have used.
  • Be careful with coloured backgrounds and borders; if your printer and/or label template aren’t quite accurate enough, you may end up with “white edging” where your label template is slightly misaligned with your labels. You can avoid this either by not using a coloured background or border OR by oversizing your background or border so that it overlaps the edges of each label – if possible.
Top Tip:  centralise so your design so it always starts from the middle of each blank label and extends outwards, which helps to prevent your design getting cut off at the edges of your sheet labels.
  • In Word, use text boxes to control the positioning of text in your Christmas design (and add a festive border) and use the “Wrap Text” option in the “Picture Tools Format” tab to control the positioning of any images (use “Tight” or “In Front Of Text”).
  • Use Word’s built in Mail Merge tool to create personalised address labels. The Mail Merge Wizard (click on the “Mailings” tab, then click on the “Start Mail Merge” button, and select “Step-by-Step Mail Merge Wizard”) will guide you through the SIX steps:
  1. Select Document Type: create a set of address labels.
  2. Select Starting Document: select your label template; Mail Merge works best with a built in Avery template (click “Change document layout” then “Label options”) but you can use a label template you have downloaded (e.g. from the Label Planet website) and saved to your computer (“Start from existing document”) OR use the “New Label” option in the “Label options” box to create your own label template.
Label templates AND measurements for all of our label sizes can be found on the template information page for each of our products; use the “Templates & Printing Information” link on the product page or navigate from our Template Home Page to find the templates and information you need.
  3. Select Recipients: connect your label template to your list of addresses using the “Use existing list” option. Once you have confirmed that you are happy with the information in your list, a <<Next Record>> rule is added to each blank label in your label template (except the first one).
If you have downloaded a label template, you need to add this rule manually; click on the “Rules” button in the “Mailings” tab at the top of the page and select “Next Record” from the drop down list.
  4. Arrange Your Labels: add your Christmas label design; if you are using a built in template (or one you have made) you can add your design to the top left label and use the “Update All Labels” button to fill in the rest of your label template.
Use placeholders to indicate where the information from your list should sit; add individual fields using the “More Items” option or use the “Address Block” to insert your addresses in a single placeholder.
  5. Preview Your Labels: check that your information fits into your design properly (and go back to make amends if it does not).
  6. Complete The Merge: merge your label template with your list of addresses to create one unique address label for each of the recipients on your Christmas list.
  • ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS test print your Christmas label template onto paper BEFORE loading your sheet labels proper; this allows you to check that your label template and printer are set up correctly to produce the print quality and alignment that you need to produce perfect Christmas labels.
  • Use the media bypass tray (if your printer has one) and go through your printer’s properties to make sure you are using a Page Size of A4, a Media Type/Weight of Labels (or Heavy Paper), and that no scaling options (e.g. less than 100% or “Fit to Page/Sheet”) are selected.

Remember, you can find label templates for ALL of our label sizes in our Template Section OR by clicking on the “Templates & Printing Information” link on the product page of the self adhesive labels you have bought from Label Planet.

View all of our material options on our “List Of All Materials” page, visit our Address Labels range page to find the perfect Christmas address labels, or take a look through our Help Pages for even more tips and advice (including our “Label Template Blog”).

If you need any further assistance ordering, designing, or printing your own Christmas address labels or gift tags, you can always get in touch with our Customer Service Team who will be happy to help!

Get Crafty This Christmas With Christmas Labels From Label Planet

December 6th, 2017

From dazzling address labels to seasonal product labels, sticky labels are a REALLY easy way to add a festive finish (and that all important personal touch) to anything that you’re making and/or sending to someone this Christmas. Plus with label templates and A4 labels from Label Planet, you can create your own seasonal set of Christmas labels that even Father Christmas and his elves would be proud of!

Whether you’re looking for printer labels that can be printed with your laser printer or inkjet printer OR blank labels that you can decorate with a handwritten message or hand drawn design, we’ve got plenty of label sizes and materials to help you find the perfect self adhesive labels for any Christmas project.

Picking the Perfect Christmas Label For Your Project

If you want a particular label material or label size, use our “List Of Label Materials” and “Search By Width”/“Search By Height” pages to find the perfect adhesive labels for your project.

Alternatively, use our Label Finder to narrow down your options; simply select a few things that you want your blank labels to be and the Finder will show you all of the options that match your requirements.

All of our A4 labels are grouped into product ranges; each range has its own range page, which gives more information about that particular range and lists the label sizes available for that particular material and/or adhesive.

The Self Adhesive Labels On Everyone’s Christmas List

While you can take your pick from our full range of self adhesive labels, there are few firm old favourites that are just perfect for the Christmas season:

Coloured Labels: a quick and simple way to add decorative Christmas labels to any item; choose between our seven shades of Pastel Labels (for a subtle bloom of Christmas colour) or our five shades of Fluorescent Labels (for a burst of festive fun).

Brown Kraft Labels: our Kraft paper labels have a ribbed finish that adds a subtle touch of pattern and texture; these brown labels are the perfect finishing touch for any items that need a homemade touch.

Gold Labels & Silver Labels: for a luxurious and festive feel, these blank labels provide a stylish and decorative background for your season’s greetings.

Transparent Labels: perfect if you need to add product labels onto pre-printed packaging, address labels onto specially designed envelopes, or gift tags onto wrapping paper; transparent labels allow you to add a festive finish to items WITHOUT covering up the seasonal designs already printed on those items.

Gloss Labels: add a seasonal shimmer to items with gloss labels; choose between gloss laser labels / photo quality gloss laser and inkjet labels (for shiny labels that are both merry and bright) and semi-gloss labels (for a more subtle shine).

Premium Quality Paper Labels: these white labels are made with a specially coated paper that is ideal for printing high resolution artwork on blank sticky labels.

Despatch Information For (Pre) Christmas Delivery Of Your Festive Labels

If you intend to stick your self adhesive labels onto items that you need to deliver to someone else BEFORE Christmas, you’ll need to order as early as possible to leave enough time for your blank labels to be delivered to you, for you to design and print a label template onto your printer labels, for you to apply your sticky labels onto your items, and to despatch your labelled items so that they arrive before the big day.

Orders of 200+ sheets are sent via next working day carrier service (where stock is available; delivery to Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly, and the Channel Islands is via 2 day carrier service). Smaller orders are despatched via Royal Mail’s first class service as standard. First class items are NOT guaranteed to arrive the next day and so we strongly recommend upgrading your order (online or by phone) to a next day delivery service.

If you need to order 500 sheets or more, we recommend contacting our Customer Service Team to check stock availability; paper labels are generally kept in stock at our warehouse for same day despatch, while other items are made to order and have a lead time of at least 5 working days for despatch.

Despatch & Delivery Update – Last Posting Dates For 2017

November 29th, 2017

There are only a few weeks left before Christmas, which means that those all-important despatch and delivery deadlines are creeping closer and closer.

If you’re planning to buy self-adhesive labels in December, our advice – as ever – is to order AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (if not RIGHT NOW!) and to put small orders (under 250 sheets) on our guaranteed next day delivery service.

While we do everything we can to get orders despatched as quickly as possible, our despatch AND delivery estimates are increasing:

  • More orders are being placed (usually for larger quantities), which means there are more sticky labels in the queue for manufacturing – increasing DESPATCH estimates for made to order items and bulk boxes (up to 5-7 working days).
  • More items are being delivered; we always despatch orders as quickly as possible but have no control over delays within the Royal Mail’s network or our carrier’s network – possibly increasing DELIVERY estimates for all orders.

Generally speaking, GUARANTEED delivery services tend to maintain expected levels of service – it is only the Royal Mail’s first class service (used for small orders) that experiences delays, which is why we strongly recommend upgrading to a guaranteed delivery service.

We will be despatching self adhesive labels up to (and including) Friday 22nd December; our last posting dates depend on the QUANTITY of printer labels you wish to buy, the DELIVERY SERVICE you select, and your DELIVERY ADDRESS.

What’s In A (Product) Name? Quite A Lot Really!

November 22nd, 2017

Our product codes are designed to be as simple and useful as possible, which means that (if you look closely enough) you can find out all sorts of information about our self-adhesive labels just by looking their product codes.

While a lot of label products have (random) alphanumerical codes that are easily confused and hold no meaningful reference to their products, we wanted our product codes to be as useful as the sticky labels themselves.

This is why we’ve created a system for labelling our printer labels, to incorporate the main features of each product (e.g. label size and shape, labels per sheet, label adhesive and material, colours and finishes etc) into the product code – so you know exactly what you’re getting from the start!

All of our blank label products (except for our CD & DVD labels and franking labels) have a code based on the following formula:

LP + No. of Labels Per Sheet + / + Label Width + Label Shape* + Label Adhesive/Material*

1. LP

We start with “LP” to make it absolutely clear that a code belongs to self adhesive labels from Label Planet. Some companies use the SAME product codes as other companies, which can make it impossible to know where you bought a particular set of blank labels.

2. Self Adhesive Labels Per Sheet

Next we list the number of adhesive labels per sheet, followed by a forward slash.

3. Width

Then we list the width of the label size (rounded to the nearest round number); for round labels this is the diameter of the circular labels and for  oval labels this is the widest part of each oval label.

This is where the product codes for (most of) our rectangular standard matt white permanent labels end – for example:

  • LP65/38: 65 rectangular labels per sheet with a label width of 38.1mm
  • LP4/99: 4 labels per sheet with a label width of 99.1mm
  • LP21/70: 21 labels per sheet with a label width of 70mm

The rest of our sticky labels have additional elements to indicate their shape, adhesive, material, finish, and colour.

4. Blank Label Shape

First, we add a label shape; square cut rectangular labels with a selvedge (blank strips at the top and bottom of each sheet) will have “S”, round labels have “R”, oval labels have “OV”, and square labels have “SQ” – for example:

  • LP24/70S: 24 rectangular labels per sheet with a label width of 70mm and a selvedge of 8.7mm at the top and bottom of each sheet
  • LP4/100R: 4 round labels per sheet with a diameter of 100mm
  • LP8/90OV: 8 oval labels per sheet measuring 90mm at their widest point
  • LP35/37SQ: 35 square labels per sheet with a label width of 37mm

The only exceptions are our CD labels & DVD labels, which begin with “LPCD” followed by the diameter of the round labels (e.g. LPCD117).

5. Material / Adhesive

Next we add the label adhesive and/or material; each product range has its own “range code”, which is taken from the initials of the material(s) used to make that particular product – for example:

  • DF: Paper Labels with a Deep Freeze Adhesive
  • WW: Paper Labels with a Water Wash-Off Adhesive
  • GREM: Paper Labels with a Glass REMovable Adhesive
  • GWPQ: Gloss White Photo Quality Paper Labels with a Standard Permanent Adhesive
  • MPQ: Matt Premium Quality Paper Labels with a Standard Permanent Adhesive

Make A Big Splash With Splashproof Labels From Label Planet

November 15th, 2017

Today, we’re taking a closer look at our SPLASHPROOF LABELS (Semi-Gloss Labels & Gloss Laser Labels) to find out why they’re the perfect choice when you need self adhesive labels that can put up with a splish (or a splash) of water.

What are SPLASHPROOF labels?

Splashproof labels are paper labels with a special coating that provides light protection against a small splash of water. This means that if these white labels are lightly splashed with water, they can be wiped clean and dry without the labels being damaged.

They are NOT waterproof labels; where waterproof labels can be exposed to and/or submerged in water without being damaged, splashproof labels are still – essentially – paper labels that will be damaged by exposure to/submersion in water.

How does the coating protect splashproof labels from water damage?

A self-adhesive label has two main layers (the face material and the adhesive) that are carried on a backing sheet; many adhesive labels have additional layers (such as a coating) to add particular characteristics to blank labels. For example, coatings are used to create specific finishes (e.g. gloss labels, matt labels, semi-gloss labels, satin labels, silk labels etc) or to add a protective layer over the face material and adhesive. This is how the coating on splashproof labels works; it sits on top of the paper labels so that water (or dust or dirt etc) lands on the coating and NOT on the paper face material. The water can then be wiped away without damaging the paper labels.

The reason that splashproof labels are NOT waterproof labels is that this coating is a very thin layer and does not provide a full seal all the way around the paper label beneath; if a splashproof label is exposed to or submerged in a lot of water, the water will break through the protective coating to the paper face material underneath.

So why would I use splashproof labels instead of waterproof labels?

Generally speaking, the deciding factor between the two is usually budget; waterproof labels are made with synthetic plastics (polyester, polyolefin, polyethylene etc), which makes them more expensive than paper labels.

Most of our customers who choose splashproof labels are printing product labels and either don’t have the budget for waterproof labels or want a budget-friendly alternative that won’t eat into their profit margin. If you know that your products MIGHT be exposed to a light splash of water every now and then, splashproof labels might offer enough basic protection so that you don’t need to pay extra for a completely waterproof label solution.

We are more than happy to send out samples of our splashproof labels so you can test them for yourself.

Why do you only supply splashproof laser labels?

Both our splashproof gloss labels and semi-gloss labels are LASER LABELS (i.e. they must be printed using a laser printer). They are made with materials that are well-suited to the laser printing process (a dry printing process that uses heat and pressure to bond a dry powder called toner onto surfaces), which produces waterproof print. This means both the splashproof labels AND the print that is added to them will survive a splash of water.

While it is possible to make waterproof or splashproof inkjet LABELS, inkjet INKS are NOT waterproof; they are water-based and will run or smudge under even the lightest splash of water.

What sorts of label applications are suitable for splashproof labels?

Splashproof labels are excellent product labels – especially on products that are to be used and/or stored in places where they might get splashed (e.g. kitchens and bathrooms) or on containers that will contain liquids (e.g. food labels, drink labels, bottle labels, jar labels, and cosmetics labels).

In addition to creating a protective layer, the coatings on these paper labels produce an attractive and decorative surface, with the choice of a bright “full gloss” finish (for a dazzling, eye-catching labels) or a more demure “semi-gloss” finish (for a subtle touch of shine).

What splashproof labels are available from Label Planet?

We have TWO types of splashproof labels:

  • GW: gloss paper labels for laser printers; these white labels have a permanent adhesive and are made with paper that has a gloss coating, which gives them a bright and shiny finish.
  • SG: semi-gloss labels for laser printers; these white paper labels have a permanent adhesive and a semi-gloss finish (this falls between the bright shine of a gloss finish and the dull surface of a matt finish).
