How Many Ways Can You Use Labels At Christmas? (Hint: Probably More Than You Think!)

Thursday, December 17th, 2015

Over the years, we’ve heard from hundreds of customers who want to buy labels for Christmas – but some of them have surprised us with the Christmas Capers they had in store for their labels.

Most of our labels end up on Christmas cards and parcels, as gift tags and wrapping decorations, as Christmas labels on products and packaging, or as seasonal extras for Christmas events and promotions. Some of them, however, are destined for slightly more unusual festive favours:

  • Playing pieces to be used in homemade Christmas board games and card games, prompts for rounds of “Who Am I?”, and even Christmas variations of “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” (although with less “pin” and more “stick”).
  • Elements for Christmas Scavenger Hunts, including directions and all-important clues!
  • Stick on Christmas hats that won’t fall off – even if you fall asleep!
  • Homemade Christmas decorations, including wall decorations, tree decorations, and homemade Advent Calendars.
  • Labels for homemade goodies, including all kinds of Christmas biscuits and cakes, jars of Christmas condiments, along with one or two (or simply a few) bottles of homemade wine, beer, or whisky.
  • Labels on a Family Tree, created as a Christmas gift for extended family members.
  • Elements in homemade photo albums; some use labels to add descriptions to their photos, while others print their photos onto labels and stick them into a book or pad to create a homemade album.
  • Homemade beauty gifts, including balms, perfumes, and bath products.
  • Name labels and table place holders at parties and events.
  • Individual and Team Name Badges for use in competitions and tournaments – either to identify competitors or to display scores on scoreboards or tournament boards to show who has progressed through to the next round.
  • Labels for Christmas art exhibitions and Christmas fairs (or fayres if you prefer!).
  • As part of a good old traditional Christmas raffle!

FREE TEMPLATES:

We have Word and PDF templates for all of our label sizes so if you don’t have access to software that has the template you need built in, we have templates ready for you to download and use. We’re also happy to talk to customers about common template problems and issues.

GUIDE TO AVERY COMPATIBLE SIZES:

If you’ve got an Avery code and want to know if we have a compatible product or if you’ve got one of our products and want to know if it is compatible with an Avery code, then we have two handy tables to help you check compatibility.

VIDEO GUIDE TO PRINTING:

We have a short video about printing labels, which is available to view on our website.

GLOSSARY OF LABELLING & PRINTING TERMS:

We’ve put together a glossary of common labelling and printing terms to help explain some of the technical speak and jargon that exists in the labelling world. So, if there’s a word you don’t understand, why not take a browse through our glossary to see if we’ve got a handy definition available.

BLOG FULL OF HELP & ADVICE, COMMON FAQS, & NEWS:

We keep our blog up to date with all of the latest pieces of help and advice, product information, questions that we have received from customers, and all of the latest news from Label Planet.

REVIEWS:

Our amazing customers have been busy leaving reviews of our products so you don’t just have to take our word for how useful they can be. Reviews are a great way to find out how our customers get on with our labels, the wonderfully creative ways they use our labels, and any tips they have for fellow labellers. We also keep a eye on reviews that we receive, so if a customer uses their review to flag up an issue they experienced, we can pick up on these problems and do our best to find a solution.

DOS & DON’TS:

A list of simple dos and don’ts to help avoid the most common problems that occur when printing labels.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (& ANSWERS!):

We’ve compiled a list of the most common questions that our customers ask, so if there’s a simple question you want answering you can always take a look through our FAQ to see if there’s an answer to your question there.

A GUIDE TO DESIGNING & PRINTING LABELS:

A basic guide to designing and printing labels based on the tricks and tips that we’ve picked up along the way. While labelling can be extremely easy to do, it can also be quite confusing if you’ve never done it before, so we’ve put together an easy to follow guide that will help steer you through the process of designing and printing a template – because, like anything else, labelling is a lot easier to do when you know the little tricks to getting the results you want.

A GUIDE TO PRINTING ROUND & OVAL LABELS:

Round and oval labels are always trickier to get right than rectangular labels, so we’ve written a guide especially for customers who are printing these particular shapes. There’s a brief guide to designing and printing round or oval labels, along with a few tips to help you avoid common problems that crop up with these shapes.

A GUIDE TO PRINTING MIRRORED LABELS:

This is a bit more specialised but now that we’ve introduced our range of Transparent Static Cling labels, we wanted to make sure that customers wanting to print mirrored window stickers had a bit of guidance to help them out. Mirrored labels are printed in reverse, so that they can stuck to the inside of a window (or glass surface) and read correctly from the other side.

SMARTSTAMP® INFORMATION:

A brief description of the Royal Mail’s Smartstamp for customers who are considering using this service to pre-pay for their postage.

SPECIFICATION SHEETS:

Each of our specialist materials has a specification sheet that outlines the specifics of the face material, adhesive, and backing sheet used to make that particular kind of label. These specification sheets can be found on our range pages, each of which is dedicated to one particular material or adhesive that we have available.

Schools: We Need You (To Tell Us How You Use Your Labels)

Tuesday, January 21st, 2014

We have a number of schools who buy labels from us.

While a large number of these buy our LP18/63 for their marking systems, we also get orders for a variety of other products – and it’s made us curious.

We want to help schools in any way we can and, if we know the sorts of labels that come in useful, we will be able to offer better products and better advice to schools who order from us in the future.

So, do you need circles for feedback stickers? Labels for organising the classroom? Stickers that you can use as tools for teaching and revision?

Whatever it is, we want to hear from you.

Leave us a comment below or send us an email at info@labelplanet.co.uk.

How to use GCP as a transparent White Board

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013

We’ve had a couple of enquiries recently from people who were looking for a product that they could use with dry whiteboard marker pens – that could be written on and then wiped clean and re-used – and we decided to put our labels to the test.

We picked up some dry white board marker pens and got scribbling on all of our polyester materials. We weren’t sure if ANY of them would work, but the GLOSS CLEAR POLYESTER LABELS (GCP) took us by surprise by acting just like a white board. The erasable ink sits on the gloss surface of these polyester labels and can be removed with the tip of a finger or the corner of a tissue – no water required!

To make your very own white board, all you need to do is apply one of these labels to a surface and get writing!

They make a perfect toy (or should that be distraction?) for children, who can draw or play games such as noughts and crosses or hangman over and over again. They can be used as an educational tool in schools, as indicators of stock levels that can be adjusted or rewritten accordingly, or as part of filing systems that need to be updated regularly. They’re also, as we’ve discovered, quite the fun distraction in the office – although you could, of course, use them in a more serious capacity – perhaps as an office noteboard or planner to keep track of ongoing projects and deadlines, dates for the diary, or notices. They’re also a great way to make temporary name labels, signs, notices, or general purpose labels that can be written out then erased or amended as needed.

You can find out more, view the sizes available, or order your Gloss Clear Polyester Labels from our website, here.

Labels That Are Perfect For Summer

Tuesday, July 16th, 2013

With a heatwave upon us (and who knew we’d be getting to say that this year?!) we’re getting more and more requests about labels that are suitable for summer. So here’s a bit of a guide to the labels that we’re recommending.

FREEZER LABELS
So this might be a bit of an obvious one, but we’ve had quite the demand for freezer labels in the past few weeks. So much so, we’re having to keep a very close eye on our stock levels!
These labels are paper labels with a special adhesive designed to withstand the process of being stored in a freezer. We recommend using them with laser printers – you can print them using an inkjet printer, but there may be problems with the print smudging when an item is removed from a freezer and condensation forms.
Suitable for: food and drink! These labels are great for labelling all kinds of delicious deserts and cooling drinks that we just can’t get enough of in the summer months.

COLOURED AND FLUORESCENT LABELS
Summer brings out the brightest of colours; in fashion, in marketing, in shops, and in schools. It’s easy to join in with the fun of summer by brightening up your labels with a cool pastel colour or, for the more daring, a bright fluorescent colour.
These paper labels are available in a choice of six pastel colours and five fluorescent colours. All are suitable for laser printers and the pastel coloured labels can also be printed using inkjet printers.
Suitable for: adding colour! Whether you’re adding information to products, marketing materials, diaries and organisational charts, or just sprucing up your filing system, these labels are a great way to add a burst of colour in the summer months.

WATERPROOF LABELS
The warm weather means we get to spend time outdoors, which means you may need labels that can survive in outdoor conditions. Our range of waterproof laser labels are perfect for the great outdoors – whether you need labels in your garden, on sports and watersports equipment, or on the myriad of items that become essentials on family days out.
These labels are made of either a polyester or a polyethylene material, which makes them much more durable and waterproof. They also come with a waterproof adhesive and two of our ranges – matt white polyester and matt white polyethylene – come with a waterproof adhesive that meets the BS5609 standard. Among other things, this means these labels have survived being stored in seawater for three months!
Suitable for: labelling anything that needs to survive outside. If you’ve got an outdoor display, equipment that is used outside, or anything that needs to survive getting wet, these labels are the ideal choice.
Options:
Gloss White Polyester
Matt White Polyester
Gloss Transparent Polyester
Matt Transparent Polyester
Matt White Polyethylene

If you’ve got any summer favourites, let us know. We love hearing about the unusual uses our customers have for our labels, from labelling plastic ducks in charity fetes to labelling participants in marathons and triathlons, so why not try and surprise us with yours?!

Feedback: We Want To Hear From You

Thursday, July 11th, 2013

We’re always looking for ways to improve and we think the best way to find out what we could be doing better is to ask our customers for feedback.

Feedback is very important to us, and we like to make a note of all of the comments we get – positive or negative. If you think there’s something we do that is particularly helpful, let us know and we can make sure we keep on doing it! Or, if any part of our service has let you down, let us know and we’ll do our best to make sure it doesn’t happen again – to you or to any of our customers. Plus if there’s something you think is missing from our service, we’re always happy to listen to and implement suggestions wherever we can.

Customers can leave feedback and comments using our new multiple choice review system. This easy to follow system lets you leave your thoughts about our products, customer service, and delivery process, and it only takes thirty seconds to submit a review.

To leave a review, simply visit our review page, select the type of label that you bought from us, and get commenting!

Remember, you can also let us know how we’re doing on Facebook and Twitter; whether you leave us a message or simply give us a like or a follow.

We’re also creating a “Labels Gallery” to display all of the wonderful and creative ways our labels get used. Simply send a photograph of your printed labels to info@labelplanet.co.uk and we’ll feature you in our gallery.

Revising For Exams With Super Removable Labels

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

Students across the country will be busy preparing for impending exams and presentations (or perhaps they should be!). Label Planet has a unique solution to help you with the tricky task of remembering everything you might need to know.

Our super removable labels (product code: GREM) have a very light adhesive that provides a low initial tack and can be removed from any surface quickly and easily, without leaving any residue behind. In fact, they can be compared to the average post-it note, just with the adhesive all over the back of the label.

This makes our super removable labels an ideal way to print revision cards that you can stick anywhere around the house to help you remember important information. You can print the key facts, figures, or quotations that you need to learn and stick them onto books, revision posters, walls, desks, or even over the bathroom mirror as a revision reminder first thing in the morning and last thing at night. And, once you’ve completed your exam or presentation, you can remove them without any traces of residue (though whether you choose to keep them safely filed away with your other revision notes or throw them out as quickly as you can is up to you!).

You can Request A Sample or Find Out More about our Super Removable Labels on our website.

Decorative Labels – Gold & Silver

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

Our gold and silver paper labels are perfect for adding a decorative touch. The textured, semi-gloss finish is an attractive addition to all kinds of items.

They are ideal for use as return address labels (to make sure the recipient notices your details) or as name tags on presents and gift items (to let the recipient know how special they are!). We also have customers who use them on products, personal invitations to birthdays, weddings, and christenings, as decorative name badges, and as certificate stickers in books that are awarded as prizes. They’ve even been used as opaque or block out labels, to disguise errors or update information without the need to reprint entire brochures or leaflets.

In fact, we love our gold and silver labels so much, we use them ourselves! Each order that is sent out in a small box is sealed with our very own branded gold or silver labels.

Our gold and silver labels are supplied on A4 sheets in eight different sizes, and are compatible with laser printers and photocopiers.

Please visit our Gold Labels Range Page or our Silver Labels Range Page to find out more or to buy.

Customer Calls – Why Don’t You Stock ALL Sizes of A4 Labels?

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

The phone goes and the customer wants labels for laser printing, which are blue, 21.3mm x 47.8mm, 10 to an A4 sheet, with a very strong adhesive.

Guess what?! It is not a label we have in stock…

“What do you mean, you do not have these?” exclaims the customer in disbelief…

One quiet afternoon in April we worked out that to have all of the possible combinations in stock in .1mm increments we would need over 450 million stock lines, and if we allowed 1 metre of shelving for each stock line then our shelving would go round the earth 5 times at the equator.

The reason, therefore, that we do not have everything in stock is easy… we could not get enough label shelving!!!!

At Label Planet, we specialise in supplying blank labels on A4 sheets and aim to provide our customers with the best possible range of label products – with as many of the most popular items available to order from stock for same day despatch. To find out if we stock the labels you want, simply visit the Range Page of the label type you want to buy; stocked items are listed at the TOP of these pages and have a 25 sheet minimum order quantity.

If you’re stuggling to find the labels you want, get in touch with our Customer Service team who will be happy to help with your label requirements.

Where we don’t carry stock of an item, you can still order them as a “made to order” item; these items are made and despatched within five working days (paper items are usually made much sooner). Please note, however, that we DO NOT produce bespoke label sizes and/or material combinations.
