If you aren’t printing onto your labels (or if you are using a waterproof pen to handwrite your labels) then you can purchase any of the labels listed in the table above. However, if you intend to print your labels, you will need to use a laser printer. Laser printers use a dry printing process to fuse toner onto a surface through a combination of heat and pressure, which creates waterproof print. Inkjet printers, however, tend to use water based inks, which will run or smudge if they get wet.
Two of our label products are described as “splashproof”; these paper products have a gloss finish, which means that they can be wiped clean and dry if they are lightly splashed with water or get a little bit dirty. As they are made of paper, however, they cannot be considered truly waterproof because (like any product made of paper) they will be damaged by immersion in water.
While all of the products in the “Waterproof Plastic Labels” section of the table are made with waterproof adhesives, the matt white polyester (MWP), matt white polyethylene (MWPE), and matt white polyolefin (MWPO) labels are made with a very strong marine quality (BS5609) adhesive; this permanent waterproof adhesive has undergone official testing (including immersion in sea water for 3 months) to confirm that it is suitable for use in marine conditions.
